Study of Dynamics in Metallic MEMS Cantilevers - Pull-In Voltage and Actuation Speed
(2023-01-13)
For different metals and varying geometries, this paper presents simulations of electrostatically actuated MEMS cantilevers regarding their influence on pull-in voltage and actuation speed. Three-dimensional electromechanical modeling including many non-linearities has been performed to study some static but mainly dynamic features. The results show that the involved parameters have different influences on the actuation speed and pull-in voltage: lower length, higher thickness as well as lower density and higher ...

Mechanisms of one-photon two-site double ionization after resonant inner-valence excitation in Ne clusters
(2023-01-30)
The role of interatomic and intermolecular energy and charge-transfer processes in weakly bound matter is currently lively debated due to emerging destructive low-energy electrons and radicals. Here, we discuss two mechanisms of single-photon two-site double ionization occurring competitively or subsequently to resonant interatomic Coulombic decay (rICD) in inner-valence (2s→np) excited Ne dimers and clusters. The first mechanism is photoelectron-impact ionization which is, in general, not related to resonant excitation, ...

Multi crop high efficiency seed drill with solar hybrid seed metering: A step toward precision and sustainability
(2023-01-11)
High crop production with limited energy resources is always the priority area of developing countries. Conventional agricultural experimenting and crop production methods are time-consuming, challenging, laborious, and energy intensive. Various developments and experimental studies have been carried out for advancement in agriculture technologies. This study is mainly focused on the design and development of a unique high-efficiency seed drill machine to increase the energy efficiency of agricultural experiments, ...

Biogeography of the Sunda Shelf revisited: Insights from Macaranga section Pruinosae (Euphorbiaceae)
(2023-01-17)
The Southeast Asian region of Sundaland is among the world’s major biodiversity hotspots. The region’s biodiversity coupled with its complex and dynamic geographic and climatic histories makes it an ideal region to study the various factors that determine the diversification and distribution patterns of tropical biota. Here we investigate the biogeographic patterns in the partly myrmecophytic Macaranga section Pruinosae to reveal some of the factors that play a role in determining the distribution of biota in Sundaland. ...

Genotyping by sequencing and a newly developed mRNA-GBS approach to link population genetic and transcriptome analyses reveal pattern differences between sites and treatments in red clover (Trifolium pratense L.)
(2023-01-17)
The important worldwide forage crop red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is widely cultivated as cattle feed and for soil improvement. Wild populations and landraces have great natural diversity that could be used to improve cultivated red clover. However, to date, there is still insufficient knowledge about the natural genetic and phenotypic diversity of the species. Here, we developed a low-cost complexity reduced mRNA analysis (mRNA-GBS) and compared the results with population genetic (GBS) and previously published ...

Endangered Urban Commons: Lahore’s Violent Heritage Management and Prospects for Reconciliation
(2023-01-30)
The debate on urban commons yields relevance for shared histories and heritage in divided and post-conflict societies. Albeit memory is always subjective, heritage management tends to engender a linear view of the past that suggests a preconceived future development. Where the past is denigrated to prove the impossibility of ethnoreligious communities’ coexistence even though they have lived together peacefully for centuries, it risks corroborating us-them divisions for posterity and undermines reconciliation and ...

Kulturtransfer und Wissenszirkulation in den langen 1960er Jahren. Das deutsch-amerikanische Fulbright-Programm für Lehrer:innen.
(Julius Klinkhardt, 2023)
Erstmalig werden hierzu die Annual Exchange Teacher’s Reports on Teaching Experiences in the United States ...

Das kritisch-alternative pädagogische Milieu um 1968. Wissensbewegungen zwischen Handlungspraxis, Politik und Wissenschaft.
(Julius Klinkhardt, 2023)

Miniaturized interferometric confocal distance sensor for surface profiling with data rates at ultrasonic frequencies
(2023-01-12)
Point-wise measuring profilometers like the tactile stylus instruments or optical sensors are established measurement tools in science and industry to measure and characterize surface textures. We present a fiber-coupled laser interferometric confocal distance sensor for surface profiling. The sensor is characterized by small geometric dimensions and by its high lateral
scanning speed. The ability to measure specularly reflecting and rough surface textures are demonstrated by performing several measurements on a ...

Model-based investigations of ferroelectric energy harvesting with regard to an improvement of life span and operability
(2023-02-13)
A new ferroelectric energy harvesting concept is investigated theoretically, based on a thermo-electromechanical multiscale constitutive framework in connection with the so-called condensed method. Taking advantage of comparatively large changes of strain and polarization due to domain switching, the electric output is higher compared to what is commonly known as
piezoelectric energy harvesting. Dissipative self-heating and augmented damage accumulation, on the other hand, may impede the operability of the harvesting ...
