Development of 18 Polymorphic Microsatellite Markers for Vinca minor (Apocynaceae) via 454 Pyrosequencing
(2015)
• Premise of the study: Polymorphic microsatellite markers were developed in Vinca minor (Apocynaceae) to evaluate the level of clonality, population structure, and genetic diversity of the species within its native and introduced range.
• Methods and Results: A total of 1371 microsatellites were found in 43,565 reads from 454 pyrosequencing of genomic V. minor DNA. Additional microsatellite loci were mined from publicly available cDNA sequences. After several rounds of screening, 18 primer pairs flanking di-, tri-, ...

Loss of Anticodon Wobble Uridine Modifications Affects tRNALys Function and Protein Levels in Saccharomyces cerevisiae
(2015)
In eukaryotes, wobble uridines in the anticodons of tRNALysUUU, tRNAGluUUC and tRNAGlnUUG are modified to 5-methoxy-carbonyl-methyl-2-thio-uridine (mcm5s2U). While mutations in subunits of the Elongator complex (Elp1-Elp6), which disable mcm5 side chain formation, or removal of components of the thiolation pathway (Ncs2/Ncs6, Urm1, Uba4) are individually tolerated, the combination of both modification defects has been reported to have lethal effects on Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Contrary to such absolute requirement ...

Detecting ultrafast interatomic electronic processes in media by fluorescence
(In: New journal of physics. - London : IOP, 2014, 16, 102002, 1-9, 2014)
Interatomic coulombic decay (ICD), a radiationless transition in weakly bonded systems, such as solutes or van der Waals bound aggregates, is an effective source for electrons of low kinetic energy. So far, the ICD processes could only be probed in ultra-high vacuum by using electron and/or ion spectroscopy. Here we show that resonant ICD processes can also be detected by measuring the subsequently emitted characteristic fluorescence radiation, which makes their study in dense media possible.

Asymptotic model for shape resonance control of diatomics by intense non-resonant light: universality in the single-channel approximation
(2015)
Non-resonant light interacting with diatomics via the polarizability anisotropy couples different
rotational states and may lead to strong hybridization of the motion. The modification of shape
resonances and low-energy scattering states due to this interaction can be fully captured by an
asymptotic model, based on the long-range properties of the scattering (Crubellier et al 2015 New J.
Phys. 17 045020). Remarkably, the properties of the field-dressed shape resonances in this asymptotic
multi-channel description ...

Asymptotic model for shape resonance control of diatomics by intense non-resonant light
(2015)
We derive a universal model for atom pairs interacting with non-resonant light via the polarizability
anisotropy, based on the long range properties of the scattering. The corresponding dynamics can be
obtained using a nodal line technique to solve the asymptotic Schrödinger equation. It consists of
imposing physical boundary conditions at long range and vanishing the wavefunction at a position
separating the inner zone and the asymptotic region. We show that nodal lines which depend on the
intensity of the ...

Femtosecond wavepacket interferometry using the rotational dynamics of a trapped cold molecular ion
(2015)
A Ramsey-type interferometer is suggested, employing a cold trapped ion and two time-delayed offresonant
femtosecond laser pulses. The laser light couples to the molecular polarization anisotropy,
inducing rotational wavepacket dynamics. An interferogram is obtained from the delay dependent
populations of the final field-free rotational states. Current experimental capabilities for cooling and
preparation of the initial state are found to yield an interferogram visibility of more than 80%. The
interferograms can ...

Effects of changing water availability on land use in irrigated mountain oases of Al Jabal Al Akhdar, northern Oman
(2014)
In Oman, during the last three decades, agricultural water use and groundwater extraction has dramatically increased to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population and major changes in lifestyle. This has triggered agricultural land-use changes which have been poorly investigated. In view of this our study aimed at analysing patterns of shortterm land-use changes (2007-2009) in the five irrigated mountain oases of Ash Sharayjah, Al’Ayn, Al’Aqr, Qasha’ and Masayrat ar Ruwajah situated in the northern Oman Hajar ...

Sulfur transfer and activation by ubiquitin-like modifier system Uba4•Urm1 link protein urmylation and tRNA thiolation in yeast
(2016-10-24)
Urm1 is a unique dual-function member of the ubiquitin protein family and conserved from yeast to man. It acts both as a protein modifier in ubiquitin-like urmylation and as a sulfur donor for tRNA thiolation, which in concert with the Elongator pathway forms 5-methoxy-carbonyl-methyl-2-thio (mcm5s2) modified wobble uridines (U34) in anticodons. Using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model to study a relationship between these two functions, we examined whether cultivation temperature and sulfur supply previously ...

Does interpersonal behavior of psychotherapy trainees differ in private and professional relationships?
(2015)
• Aim: The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of trainees’ interpersonal behavior on work involvement (WI) and compared their social behavior within professional and private relationships as well as between different psychotherapeutic orientations.
• Methods: The interpersonal scales of the Intrex short-form questionnaire and the Work Involvement Scale (WIS) were used to evaluate two samples of German psychotherapy trainees in psychoanalytic, psychodynamic, and cognitive behavioral therapy training. Trainees ...

X-ray imaging of a water bear offers a new look at tardigrade internal anatomy
(2019-05-11)
Background:
Tardigrades (water bears) are microscopic invertebrates of which the anatomy has been well studied using traditional techniques, but a comprehensive three-dimensional reconstruction has never been performed. In order to close this gap, we employed X-ray computed tomography (CT), a technique that is becoming increasingly popular in zoology for producing high-resolution, three-dimensional (3D) scans of whole specimens. While CT has long been used to scan larger samples, its use in some microscopic animals ...
