Didymella pinodella: An Important Pea Root Rot Pathogen in France to Watch Out For?
(2024-01-05)
Root rot pathogens restrict pea and wheat production globally. In the EU, pea and pea-based cereal mixtures are being promoted; however, root rot pathogen dynamics in such mixtures are poorly understood. Winter pea and wheat were grown either in pure stands or in mixtures in the field in western France, and the severity of root rot in pea, wheat, and their mixtures, as well as the key pathogens associated with these crops, were assessed. Disease severity was moderate in pea and low in wheat, with no effect of sowing ...

Main soil microbial groups assessed by phospholipid fatty acid analysis of temperate alley agroforestry systems on crop- and grassland
(2024-01-12)
The phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) composition of soils was analysed at three poplar-based silvo-arable systems and at one willow-based silvo-grassland alley agroforestry system in Central Germany. The objective was to analyse tree row effects on the PLFA composition of main fungal and main bacterial groups. The fungal groups were BAM (Basidiomycota + Ascomycota + Mucoromycota) and AMF (Arbuscular Mycorrhizal Fungi). The bacterial groups were Gram-negative, Firmicutes, and Actinobacteria. The total PLFA content varied ...

Psychotherapie wirkt
(2024-01-08)

Presence of keel bone damage in laying hens, pullets and roosters of local chicken breeds
(2024-01-26)
In commercial laying hens, keel bone damage (KBD) is a severe health and welfare problem leading to pain, reduced mobility and decreased laying performance. Flocks of all production systems and hybrid lines can be affected. KBD is a multifactorial welfare issue and, among other factors, associated with a high laying performance which negatively affects the calcium deposit in the medullary bones. Therefore, mature hens of local breeds with much lower egg production than commercial hybrids may be expected to show less ...

Solar driven liquid desiccant dehumidification system: Measurements and annual system simulations
(2024-01-17)
Liquid desiccant air conditioning (LDAC) systems are used for dehumidification of air to low dew point temperatures. In the presented study a TRNSYS model of a LDAC unit is developed and validated with laboratory measurements. This model is coupled with a solar thermal system that provides heating water for the regeneration process. With this model dynamic annual system simulations can be carried out to simulate the dehumidification of a building. The solar fraction is evaluated for various infiltration rates of the ...

Universalist children’s services. From two-part to inclusive social infrastructure
(2024-01-11)
The scientific network “Universalist Children’s Services: From Two-Part to Inclusive Social Infrastructure,” funded by the German Research Foundation, comprises 20 researchers. Its purpose is to contribute to the development of a more inclusive design of the public children’s services system. To achieve this objective, the network integrates legal and educational perspectives in its analysis of the current structure of the children’s services system. The network’s starting point is the concept of universalist children’s ...

Drought threatens agroforestry landscapes and dryland livelihoods in a North African hotspot of environmental change
(2024-02-08)
Dryland agroforestry is often hailed as a nature-based solution for rural people’s water- and climate-related struggles, yet appraisals of traditional agroforestry practices and interventions in Maghreb countries are scant. In this study, we appraise whether and how agroforestry delivers as a solution to Moroccan farmers’ plight with drought. Through an analysis of landscape observations, 75 qualitative interviews, and six group discussions, we show that the region’s mountain residents risk losing their livelihoods ...

Weisfeiler-Lehman goes dynamic: An analysis of the expressive power of Graph Neural Networks for attributed and dynamic graphs
(2024-02-28)
Graph Neural Networks (GNNs) are a large class of relational models for graph processing. Recent theoretical studies on the expressive power of GNNs have focused on two issues. On the one hand, it has been proven that GNNs are as powerful as the Weisfeiler–Lehman test (1-WL) in their ability to distinguish graphs. Moreover, it has been shown that the equivalence enforced by 1-WL equals unfolding equivalence. On the other hand, GNNs turned out to be universal approximators on graphs modulo the constraints enforced by ...

Recovered memories in psychotherapy: a survey of practicing psychotherapists in Germany
(2024-01-29)
We report on a survey of 258 psychotherapists from Germany, focusing on their experiences with memory recovery in general, suggestive therapy procedures, evaluations of recovered memories, and memory recovery in training and guidelines. Most therapists (78%) reported instances of memory recovery encompassing negative and positive childhood experiences, but usually in a minority of patients. Also, most therapists (82%) reported to have held assumptions about unremembered trauma. Patients who held these beliefs were ...
