CEM - a conceptual Email manager
(2000)
CEM is an email management system which stores its email in a concept lattice rather than in the usual tree structure. By using such a conceptual multi-hierarchy, the system provides more flexibility in retrieving stored emails. The paper presents the underlying mathematical structures, discusses requirements for their maintenance and presents their implementation.

CEM - visualization and discovery in Email
(2000)
This paper presents a lattice-based visual metaphor for knowledge discovery in electronic mail. It allows a user to navigate email using a visual lattice metaphor rather than a tree structure. By using such a conceptual multi-hierarchy, the content and shape of the lattice can be varied to accommodate any number of queries against the email collection. The system provides more flexibility in retrieving stored emails and can be generalised to any electronic documents. The paper presents the underlying mathematical ...

Supporting co-operative work in apron control and resource management offices on airports
(P.C. Cacciabue, Institute for System Informatics and Safety, European Commission, Joint Research Centre Ispra, Italien, 2000-06-26)
A high demand exists to increase the efficiency of present airport ground facilities and the co-ordination of traffic and services. The Traffic Office plays a crucial role in managing the airport. The main tasks of the Traffic Office is management of equipment, services, and ressources based on the flight schedule and resolving conflicts arising from deviations from the schedule. A new tool will support information exchange between Traffic Office and other facilities on the airport.

Precision mapping
(2000)
The nondestructive determination of plant total dry matter (TDM) in the field is greatly preferable to the harvest of entire plots in areas such as the Sahel where small differences in soil properties may cause large differences in crop growth within short distances. Existing equipment to nondestructively determine TDM is either expensive or unreliable. Therefore, two radiometers for measuring reflected red and near-infrared light were designed, mounted on a single wheeled hand cart and attached to a differential ...

Root-induced increases in soil pH and nutrient availability to field-grown cereals and legumes on acid sandy soils of Sudano-Sahelian West Africa
(2000)
A field experiment with millet (Pennisetum glaucum L.), sorghum [Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench], cowpea (Vigna unguiculata L.) and groundnut (Arachnis hypogeae L.) was conducted on severely P-deficient acid sandy soils of Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso to measure changes in pH and nutrient availability as affected by distance from
the root surface and by mineral fertiliser application. Treatments included three rates of phosphorus (P) and four levels of nitrogen (N) application. Bulk, rhizosphere and rhizoplane soils ...
