Die vorliegende Untersuchung fokussiert sich auf die Frage, weshalb sich Giuseppe Verdi als überaus erfolgreicher Komponist von 26 Opern 50 Jahre damit beschäftigte, den „König Lear“ von William Shakespeare zu vertonen, ohne das Projekt jemals auf die Bühne zu bringen.
