On the Impact of Texture and Grain Size on the Pseudoelastic Properties of Polycrystalline Fe–Ni–Co–Al–Ti Alloy
(2020-05-08)
The effects of thermomechanical treatments on crystallographic texture and grain size evolution and their impact on the pseudoelastic properties in Fe41–Ni28–Co17–Al11.5–Ti2.5 (at.%) were studied in the present paper. The results show that cold rolling leads to brass-type texture in this alloy, which is typical for low stacking fault energy materials. Thermal treatments up to 1300 °C were conducted and it is shown that the presence of β-phase helps to control grain growth. After the dissolution of the secondary phase ...

Characterisation of productivity and diseases affecting dairy goats in smallholder systems of Greater Thika Region, Kenya
(2020-11-18)
The current cross-sectional study aimed at characterising the productivity and diseases affecting dairy goats kept by smallholder farmers in three sub-counties in Thika Region, Kenya. Standard questionnaires were administered to 240 farmers through face-to-face interviews and the outputs were analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The farmers mainly kept crosses of Toggenburg (45.9 %), Kenyan Alpine (29.5 %) and Saanen (17.4 %) dairy goats. The average dairy goat flock size was 4.5 (range 1–23) and ...

Economic and financial returns of livestock agribusiness in high mountains of Nepal
(2020-11-25)
Development partners and donor agencies often target programs and projects in poverty stricken and vulnerable regions around the world. However, there is paucity on economic and financial analysis of such investments. This study contributes to the literature by assessing financial internal rate of return (FIRR) and economic internal rate of return (EIRR) of livestock agribusiness, a vital component of ‘High Mountain Agribusiness and Livelihood Improvement’ (HIMALI) project supported by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) ...

An investigation of the aspects affecting non-Muslim customers’ purchase intention of halal food products in Jakarta, Indonesia
(2021-05-25)
The international trade market of halal food products is huge and has become a fast-growing segment. People that consume food and beverage will also consider if it is good for health, well-being, nutrition, and physical fitness. Nowadays, halal products are requested by Muslim and non-Muslim customers due to safety and quality concern. Even though several studies have been conducted for Muslim customers, but there is a lack of data by foregoing studies which exploring non-Muslim customers about their intention in ...

The influence of electric loading on crack paths in ferroelectrics
(2020-05-30)
Ferroelectric materials are widely used in our daily life and many advanced industrial products. The understanding of their fracture behavior has been in the focus of research for decades, since the success of their application requires reliability and durability. For ferroelectric fracture behavior, different fracture criteria have been proposed and the influence of various mechanical-electric loading combinations on crack propagation have been investigated. However, the crack path and the deflection of crack ...

On the Impact of Build Envelope Sizes on E-PBF Processed Pure Iron
(2021-11-17)
In additive manufacturing, the thermal history of a part determines its final microstructural and mechanical properties. The factors leading to a specific temperature profile are diverse. For the integrity of a parameter setting established, periphery variations must also be considered. In the present study, iron was processed by electron beam powder bed fusion. Parts realized by two process runs featuring different build plate sizes were analyzed. It is shown that the process temperature differs significantly, ...

Effect of Village Savings and Loan Associations on adoption of index-based crop insurance under limited liabilities
(2020-03-26)
A household survey and focus group discussions were conducted to quantify the general determinants of an index-based crop insurance adoption under limited liabilities in Burundi, and specifically the effect of existing Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs). The survey sample comprised of 40 crop insurance adopters, 40 non-adopters and 40 drop-outs in Bukirasazi and Makebuko communes of Gitega province.
The results indicated that saving money (by VSLAs) for upcoming premium payments and regularly VSLA meetings ...

On the Microstructural and Cyclic Mechanical Properties of Pure Iron Processed by Electron Beam Melting
(2021-03-10)
Additive manufacturing (AM) processes such as electron beam melting (EBM) are characterized by unprecedented design freedom. Topology optimization and design of the microstructure of metallic materials are enabled by rapid progress in this field. The latter is of highest importance as many applications demand appropriate mechanical as well as functional material properties. For instance, biodegradable implants have to meet mechanical properties of human bone and at the same time guarantee adequate cytocompatibility ...

Nutrient and oil profile of Escamol, an edible larva of ants (Liometopum apiculatum Mayr)
(2021-05-25)
The objective of this study was to evaluate proximal chemical analysis, oil and fatty acids in escamol dehydrated and butter-fried that are commercially available in Mexico. In order to measure the escamol and oil quality, a chemical analysis were performed. The identification fatty acids was by refractive index. The proximal chemical analysis results in escamol fresh and deshydrated indicated that moisture (56.00-1.89 %), protein (15.30-34.78 %), lipids (20.05-45.57 %), ash (1.91-4.35 %) and carbohydrates (6.73-13.41 ...

CuCrZr processed by laser powder bed fusion — Processability and influence of heat treatment on electrical conductivity, microstructure and mechanical properties
(2021-06-16)
CuCrZr parts were fabricated by laser beam powder bed fusion (LB-PBF) technique and subjected to different heat treatments. As a result, four different conditions were considered for further investigations, that is, the as-built condition, conditions of maximum hardness (MH) and maximum electrical conductivity (MC), and a condition representing a compromise between hardness and conductivity (H&C). Microstructural evolution and performance under monotonic and cyclic loading were studied. Fracture surfaces revealed ...
