In this study, the tension–tension fatigue behavior of foam injection molded thermoplastic microcellular Polycarbonate (PC) is characterized. The variation in morphology is obtained by modifying the mold temperature, injection volume, injection flow rate, and blowing agent content (physical and chemical) in the polymer melt. The relationship between the wide range of morphological qualities and relevant fatigue properties is made explicit via a statistical correlation coefficient analyses. The analysis is made between the fatigue life, cumulative dissipated energy, strain energy, damping and dynamic modulus including the effects of morphology such as cell diameters, distance between cells, cell density, density reduction, homogeneity of cell size distribution, sphericity of cells and cell volume. Additionally, the pattern recognition of different cellular morphologies is made via hierarchical clustering analysis. As a result, the distinct cell morphologies subjected to sinusoidal cyclic-dynamic as well as quasi-static tensile load to determine the fracture behavior as a function of the morphological appearances.eng
