Magnetische Kopplungen in magneto-optischen Speicherschichten
(2005-07-25)

Convergence analysis of time-discretization schemes for rate-independent systems
(2017-12-21)
It is well known that rate-independent systems involving nonconvex energy functionals in general do not allow for time-continuous solutions even if the given data are smooth. In the last years, several solution concepts were proposed that include discontinuities in the notion of solution, among them the class of global energetic solutions and the class of BV-solutions. In general, these solution concepts are not equivalent and numerical schemes are needed that reliably approximate that type of solutions one is ...

Characterization theorem for classical orthogonal polynomials on non-uniform lattices: The functional approach
(2010)
Using the functional approach, we state and prove a characterization theorem for classical orthogonal polynomials on non-uniform lattices (quadratic lattices of a discrete or a q-discrete variable) including the Askey-Wilson polynomials. This theorem proves the equivalence between seven characterization properties, namely the Pearson equation for the linear functional, the second-order divided-difference equation, the orthogonality of the derivatives, the Rodrigues formula, two types of structure relations, and the ...

On Solution Sets of Information Inequalities
(2011)
We investigate solution sets of a special kind of linear inequality systems. In particular, we derive characterizations of these sets in terms of minimal solution sets. The studied inequalities emerge as information inequalities in the context of Bayesian networks. This allows to deduce important properties of Bayesian networks, which is important within causal inference.

Femtosecond spectroscopy of molecular autoionization and fragmentation
(1990)
Femtosecond laser pulses are applied to the study of the dynamics and the pathways of multiphoton-induced ionization, autoionization, and fragmentation of Na_2 in molecular-beam experiments. In particular,
we report on first results obtained studying electronic autoionization (leading to Na_2{^+} + {e ^-}) and
autoionization-induced fragmentation (leading to Na{^+} + Na + {e ^-}) of a bound doubly excited molecular state. The final continuum states are analyzed by photoelectron spectroscopy and by measuring the ...

Mathematical Models in the Description of Pregnane X Receptor (PXR)-Regulated Cytochrome P450 Enzyme Induction
(2018-06-15)
The pregnane X receptor (PXR) is a drug/xenobiotic-activated transcription factor of crucial importance for major cytochrome P450 xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes (CYP) expression and regulation in the liver and the intestine. One of the major target genes regulated by PXR is the cytochrome P450 enzyme (CYP3A4), which is the most important human drug-metabolizing enzyme. In addition, PXR is supposed to be involved both in basal and/or inducible expression of many other CYPs, such as CYP2B6, CYP2C8, 2C9 and 2C19, CYP3A5, ...

Numerical Solution of Viscoelastic Fluid-Structure-Diffusion Systems with Applications in Ophthalmology
(2019-09-04)
The research of fluid-structure interaction problems is a continuously growing field, especially regarding applications in medicine and biology. We present the coupling of a potentially viscoelastic fluid with multiple hyperelastic structures incorporating chemical processes in the arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian framework. This monolithic formulation allows a robust numerical solution with Newton's method. The discretization is based on the backward Euler scheme for temporal discretization and the Galerkin finite ...
