Electromagnetic Modeling of Nanooptical 2-D Photonic Crystal Structures in Resonant Micro-Opto-Electro-Mechanical Systems: Polarization Selectivity and Tunability
(2018-08-27)
In this thesis, optical filters and cavities consisting of 2-D Photonic Crystals (PCs) are studied in the Near-Infrared (NIR) range with regard to their optical properties using
the frequency domain 3-D Finite Element Method (FEM). The filter structures are Photonic Crystal Membranes (PCMs) and micromechanically tunable Fabry-Pérot-Filters
(FPFs) with periodically arranged Indium Phosphide (InP)/air elements, which support Guided Resonances (GRs). The focus here is primarily on the polarization selectivity. In

Optical Antennas for Biosensing Applications
(2015-06-19)
The aim of the thesis is to theoretically investigate optical/plasmonic antennas for biosensing applications. The full 3-D numerical electromagnetic simulations have been performed by using finite integration technique (FIT). The electromagnetic properties of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) and the localized surface plasmons (LSPs) based devices are studied for sensing purpose. The surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors offer high refractive index sensitivity at a fixed wavelength but are not enough for the ...

Numerical simulation of a sub-wavelength plasmonic THz antenna for bio-sensing applications
(2023)
In the past decades, bio-sensing has become a steadily growing field in the life-sciences. Popular subjects of investigation are proteins, which for instance mediate intra-cellular transfer of substances and thus are attractive drug targets. They are also responsible for the occurence of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and the Creutzfeld-Jakob disease. Examining proteins to uncover their fundamental properties and behavior is important in order to advance modern health care and medicine. One way to ...

Effect of Auger recombination and leakage on the droop in InGaN/GaN quantum well LEDs
(Optical Society of America, 2014)
We investigate the effect of the epitaxial structure and the acceptor doping profile on the efficiency droop in InGaN/GaN LEDs by the physics based simulation of experimental internal quantum efficiency (IQE) characteristics. The device geometry is an integral part of our simulation approach. We demonstrate that even for single quantum well LEDs the droop depends critically on the acceptor doping profile. The Auger recombination was found to increase stronger than with the third power of the carrier density and has ...
