Abstract

In the context of the present study the thermally induced air flow for single sided window ventilation is experimentally quantified using the tracer gas method. The air exchange rate of a tilt, top-hung, tilt
outward, turn, horizontal and vertical pivot, parallel outward and vertical sliding window is determined under laboratory conditions. In addition to the opening width, the temperature difference between indoor and ambient air is varied both by cooling as well as heating the test room. From a practical point of view, the experimentally measured air flow rates are representing year-round ventilation conditions. In addition to general aspects regarding ventilation potential and ventilation characteristics, a wide-scale simulation study using the measured values and dealing in particular with the passive night cooling using window ventilation will follow.
Priority is given to the elaboration of energy and indoor climate aspects of passive cooling through night ventilation. This leads on the one hand to a comparison of the evaluation criteria for the thermal protection in summer according to the old and valid DIN 4108 Part 2. On the other hand, night air exchange rates depending on opening type, climate region and building masses are derived. Subsequently, the
possibility of integrating a calculation method for determining the net energy demand for heating and cooling into the public law compliance procedure of DIN V 18599 will be presented.
