Sexuelle Gewalt im Alten Testament
Abstract
Auch heute noch ist die Autorität der Bibel eines der zentralen Argumente für Frauen, sich mit biblischen Schriften kritisch auseinander zu setzen. Die Wirkweise der biblischen Schriften hat sich in den letzten hundert Jahren geändert. In der westlichen Welt können biblische Texte nur noch in marginalen Kreisen mit ungebrochener Zustimmung rechnen. Die Autorität der Bibel hat sich gewandelt, auch für jene, die biblische Texte als Wort Gottes verstehen.
This paper deals with the representation of sexual violence in Biblical texts. It discusses the possibilities offered by Biblical Hebrew to name sexual violence. It points out that although there is no single word for “rape”, the fact of rape is nonetheless acknowledged and dealt with. There are references to sexual violence in juridical texts as well as in narrative texts. Old Testament Law is at pains to regulate sexuality according to the standards of marriage. Some narrative texts represent the transgressing of ethnic boundaries in terms of a sexual threat (Gen 19, Ju 19 and others). Other narratives deal with the daughters of important men for Israel, with Dinah (Gen 34) and Tamar (2 S 13). Finally, the paper discusses the reasons why sexual violence arises in Biblical texts at all, and what purpose this may serve.
