Performance of pacu (Colossoma macropomum) fed varying dietary inclusion levels of fish visceral and duckweed (Lemna minor) as replacement for fish and soybean meals
(2024-01-23)
The performance of Colossoma macropomum subjected to a six-month feeding trial using duckweed (Lemna minor) and fish visceral as partial replacements for soybean meal and fishmeal respectively was evaluated in this study. A total of one thousand five hundred (1500) nearly same sizes (average size 45 g) juveniles of C. macropomum were sourced from the nearby research man-made lake and subjected to proper acclimatisation for two weeks prior to the commencement of the feeding trial. One hundred (100) juveniles per ...

Analysis of agricultural landscape transformation and cropping system diversification in southern Myanmar
(2023)
Myanmar's forests are rich in biodiversity and have significant potential for carbon reduction. Kyunsu Township in southern Myanmar is still covered by biodiverse tropical evergreen rainforests on the highlands and mangroves on the coastline, conserving carbon stocks. However, the expansion of croplands into these forests to meet the growing demand for food and crop income is a major driver of deforestation and loss of carbon sinks. Thus, balancing agricultural land use and natural resource conservation is vital for ...

Effect of different diets containing varying inclusion levels of Moringa oleifera leaf meal on growth, mineral composition and meat quality of the edible land snails Archachatina marginata and Achatina fulica
(2024-02-25)
This study examined the effect of different dietary inclusion levels of Moringa oleifera leaf meal on growth, haemolymph mineral composition and meat quality of Archachatina marginata and Achatina fulica. A total of one hundred and forty four (144) juvenile snails of A. marginata= 72 and A. fulica= 72, were used for the study. Eighteen (18) snails of each species were subjected to four dietary treatments (0%, 10%, 15% and 20%) of M. oleifera leaf meal in three replicates of six (6) snails per replicate over a period ...

Management factors influencing cow milk quality and safety in the Indian megacity of Bengaluru
(2023)
Ensuring animal welfare is a critical priority for livestock farmers in the face of urbanization. Rapid urban growth increases the demand for animal products but decreases availability of arable land around cities with negative implications for animal feed production. In urbanizing regions, livestock keepers resort to common pool resources for animal nutrition. Yet, the repercussions of urbanization on the quality of common pool feed resources, animal health, production and product safety, remain unstudied. Additionally, ...

Enhancing crop-livestock systems: Unveiling the impact of leaf stripping on maize hybrid yield in Sundarbazar-Lamjung, Nepal
(2024-03-12)
In local maize agro-ecosystems in Nepal leaf stripping is, historically, practiced as a source of fodder for livestock. However, its effects on hybrid maize have not been studied. The aim of this study was to determine how defoliation below the cob affects the grain and fodder production of hybrid maize and what value the stripped leaves have as fodder for ruminants. Seven hybrid maize cultivars were evaluated for their response to leaf stripping in a randomized complete block design with three replications in ...

Diffusion of Material Flow Cost Accounting and its Contribution to Sustainable Development
(2022)
This thesis aims to analyze how further take-up of Material Flow Cost Accounting (MFCA) in practice can be encouraged to support sustainable development. To achieve the aim of the thesis, three studies on MFCA are conducted at multiple levels. The first study provides a better understanding of MFCA application at the corporate level in developing countries, which are characterized by rapid structure transformation leading to serious environmental problems. The second study considers the contextual and transformational ...

Assessment of the variation of marbling and intramuscular fat content of beef, and validation of possible factors to increase sensory beef quality
(2021-11)
This thesis focuses on the intramuscular fat content (IMF) or the marbling of beef as main parameters of sensory beef quality. The aim is to identify the high variability of these traits and to verify possible influences such as genetics, age, gender and feeding strategies to increase marbling.
The first part of this research focuses on the variation of quality traits within a genetically homogeneous line of an endangered German beef cattle breed “Rotes Höhenvieh” (RHV). The intramuscular fat content of beef samples ...

Cost and return analysis of organic and conventional farming systems in the Ganga River Basin, India
(2024-02-26)
Conventional farming (CF) has significantly increased the aggregate supply of food grains and ensured food security for the growing population in India. However, it proved environmentally unsustainable due to its higher reliance on chemical inputs. Organic farming (OF) becomes an alternative approach that ensures the sustainability of the agricultural system. But, the transition from CF to OF can be a lengthy process, and farmers may experience income loss during its course. Farmers will switch only when they are ...
