Numerical Simulation of Ground Water Flow in Dual Porous Media of the Karun 4 Dam (Iran) Foundation and Abutments
(2019)

Estimating the Effects of Climate Change on the Water Resources in the Upper Indus Basin (UIB)
(2018)
Water balance calculations and spatially distributed rainfall-runoff models require high-resolution climatic datasets as the primary input, however, in the Upper Indus basin (UIB), it is rare to find in-situ observational climate data which have spatial, altitudinal and temporal coverage, suitable enough for distributed hydrological investigations and so for the assessment of climate-change’s hydrological impacts. The average precipitation amounts over the UIB are unrealistically low to sustain the observed discharge ...

Energy Budget- and Temperature Index- based Calculations of Seasonal Mass Balances and Discharge in the Tropical Glacier Artesonraju and Artesoncocha Basin in the Cordillera Blanca,
Peru
(2020)
The core of the present Doctoral study deals with glacier simulations for calculating mass balance and discharge in the Artesonraju glacier and Artesoncocha basin, in the Cordillera Blanca (CB), Peru. For this purpose, two different models are used. One is an energy-model (EBM) which is physically based and uses energy fluxes measurements on the glaciers, whereas the other one is a temperature index model (TIM) which is empirical and uses mainly temperature and precipitation as its main input data.
An analysis of ...

Analysis and Projection of spatio-temporal Drought and Climate Change Impacts on Groundwater Resources and Surface-Groundwater Interactions for three Iranian Case Studies
(2018-08)

Rainfall Prediction with AMSR–E Soil Moisture Products Using SM2RAIN and Nonlinear Autoregressive Networks with Exogenous Input (NARX) for Poorly Gauged Basins: Application to the Karkheh River Basin, Iran
(2018-07-23)
Accurate estimates of daily rainfall are essential for understanding and modeling the physical processes involved in the interaction between the land surface and the atmosphere. In this study, daily satellite soil moisture observations from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer–Earth Observing System (AMSR–E) generated by implementing the standard National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) algorithm are employed for estimating rainfall, firstly, through the use of recently developed approach, SM2RAIN ...

Evaluation of Statistical-Downscaling/Bias-Correction Methods to Predict Hydrologic Responses to Climate Change in the Zarrine River Basin, Iran
(2018-04-20)
Modeling the hydrologic responses to future changes of climate is important for improving adaptive water management. In the present application to the Zarrine River Basin (ZRB), with the major reach being the main inflow source of Lake Urmia (LU), firstly future daily temperatures and precipitation are predicted using two statistical downscaling methods: the classical statistical downscaling model (SDSM), augmented by a trend-preserving bias correction, and a two-step updated quantile mapping (QM) method. The general ...

Hydro-economic Modeling for Optimization of Sustainable Water Management of a River Basin in the Wake of Climate Change: Case Study of the Zarrine River Basin (ZRB), Iran
(2018-11)
Food and water security will be a great future challenge due to the growth of population and unsustainable water usage. The renewable water resources in the MENA region including Iran, are expected to decline. This situation is exacerbated by the increasing demands and the rising climate variability in the wake of global climate change affecting adversely the available water resources. This thesis research attempts to evaluate the impacts of climate change and water demands on the hydrological and environmental ...

Das Einzugsgebiet der Fulda - Untersuchung der Methoden der Hochwasserstatistik im Zeichen des Klimawandels
(2011-10-26)
Numerous studies have proven an effect of a probable climate change on the hydrosphere’s different subsystems. In the 21st century global and regional redistribution of water has to be expected and it is very likely that extreme weather phenomenon will occur more frequently. From a global view the flood situation will exacerbate. In contrast to these discoveries the classical approach of flood frequency analysis provides terms like “mean flood recurrence interval”. But for this analysis to be valid there is a need ...

Numerical Feasibility Study for Treated Wastewater Recharge as a Tool to Impede Saltwater Intrusion in the Coastal Aquifer of Gaza – Palestine
(2014-04-02)
The ongoing depletion of the coastal aquifer in the Gaza strip due to groundwater overexploitation has led to the process of seawater intrusion, which is continually becoming a serious problem in Gaza, as the seawater has further invaded into many sections along the coastal shoreline.
As a first step to get a hold on the problem, the artificial neural network (ANN)-model has been applied as a new approach and an attractive tool to study and predict groundwater levels without applying physically based hydrologic ...

Application and Analysis of physical and data-driven stochastic hydrological Simulation-Optimization Methods for the optimal Management of Surface-Groundwater Resources Systems: Iranian Cases Studies
(2017-08-09)
Application of physical and data-driven stochastic hydrological simulation-optimization techniques is a major title in water resources planning for the prediction of future water-affecting events and conditions. Appropriate models and algorithms such as conceptual surface-groundwater models, artificial intelligence models (ANN), swarm intelligence and fuzzy logic have been developed and used in many research projects of conjunctive management of surface-groundwater resources in recent years. The use of these models ...
