The Road to Hell Is Paved With Good Intentions: How Common Practices in Scale Construction Hurt Validity
(2022-09-29)
Sound scale construction is pivotal to the measurement of psychological constructs. Common item sampling procedures emphasize aspects of reliability to the disadvantage of aspects of validity, which are less tangible. We use a health knowledge test as an example to demonstrate how item sampling strategies that focus on either factor saturation or construct coverage influence scale composition and demonstrate how to find a trade-off between these two opposing needs. More specifically, we compile three 75-item health ...

Grenzjustierungen - Bildungsbiografien Zugewanderter zwischen Qualifikation und Re-Qualifizierung
(transcript Verlag, 2022-04-27)

Evaluating the role of maladaptive personality traits in schema therapy and cognitive behavioural therapy for depression
(2022-05-10)
Background: Advancements in the treatment of depression are pivotal due to high levels of non-response and relapse. This study evaluated the role of personality pathology in the treatment of depression by testing whether maladaptive personality traits (1) predict changes in depression over treatment or vice versa, (2) change themselves over treatment, (3) change differentially depending on treatment with schema therapy (ST) or cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and (4) moderate the effectiveness of these ...

Mapping Narrations - Narrating Maps
(Walter de Gruyter GmbH, 2022)
In Prof. Dr. Baumgärtner’s broad and multifaceted oeuvre, the history of cartography occupies a prominent position. But beyond cartographic topicsand the history of social spaces, her research also encompasses legal, educational, gender, and regional history. Her dissertation, on the fifteenth-century Italian legal scholar Martinus Garatus Laudensis and his work, marked the beginning of a long-standing preoccupation with legal history. The focus on Italy likewise remained dominant through her habilitation thesis ...

Challenges in detecting proximal effects of existential threat on lie detection accuracy
(2022-06-14)
The present work documents our investigation of proximal (i.e., immediate) effects of existential threat on the process of lie detection. Specifically, we hypothesized that lie detection accuracy will be higher in a mortality salience (MS) condition compared with the control condition. In two lab-based studies (N = 120; N = 109) and one internet study (N = 1294), we did not find any evidence for this hypothesis, that is, MS effects on lie detection accuracy were constantly not significant. However, these null findings ...

Pflege und Technik. Empirische Einblicke in Care-Arbeit aus der Perspektive des Agentiellen Realismus
(Transcript, 2022)

Knowledge Practices Within and Beyond Sharing and Commoning Urban Initiatives
(2022-04-18)
In the context of neoliberal cities, with growing levels of housing commodification and space competition, sharing and commoning urban initiatives within the larger framework of urban social movements are shaping tactics of contestation. To what extent they represent sustainable efforts to urban commons governance remains largely unexplored. This article aims therefore to contribute to better understand how practices of solidarity can be maintained beyond their first productive phase and to explore the engagement of ...

Toward the Next Generation of Digitalization in Agriculture Based on Digital Twin Paradigm
(2022-01-10)
Digitalization has impacted agricultural and food production systems, and makes application of technologies and advanced data processing techniques in agricultural field possible. Digital farming aims to use available information from agricultural assets to solve several existing challenges for addressing food security, climate protection, and resource management. However, the agricultural sector is complex, dynamic, and requires sophisticated management systems. The digital approaches are expected to provide more ...

Associations between Dairy Herds’ Qualitative Behavior and Aspects of Herd Health, Stockperson and Farm Factors—A Cross-Sectional Exploration
(2022-01-22)
The affective state is an integrated aspect of farm animal welfare, which is understood as the animals’ perception of their living environment and of their internal biological functioning. The aim of this cross-sectional study was to explore animal-internal and external factors potentially influencing dairy cows’ affective state. For this purpose, qualitative behavior assessments (QBA) describing the animals’ body language were applied at herd level on 25 dairy farms. By means of principal component analysis (PCA), ...

The Vision of Self-Management in Cognitive Organic Power Distribution Systems
(2022-01-26)
Due to the ongoing trend towards a decarbonisation of energy use, the power system is expected to become the backbone of all energy sectors and thus the fundamental critical infrastructure. High penetration with distributed energy resources demands the coordination of a large number of prosumers, partly controlled by home energy management systems (HEMS), to be designed in such a way that the power system’s operational limits are not violated. On the grid level, distribution management systems (DMS) seek to keep the ...
