Different forms of life satisfaction and their relation to affectivity
(2016-05-03)
Aims: The present study is aimed at studying the research question whether high satisfaction levels achieved through either (1) the fact that one's quality of life is truly satisfactory (i.e., stabilized life satisfaction) or through (2) adapting a more favorable perception of one's quality of life by lowering standards (i.e., resigned life satisfaction) are associated with different levels of positive affect (PA) and negative affect (NA) when compared to each other but also when compared to dissatisfied individuals.

Effects of ten years organic and conventional farming on early seedling traits of evolving winter wheat composite cross populations
(2019-06-21)
Early vigour traits of wheat composite cross populations (CCPs) based on high yielding (Y) or high quality (Q) or Y*Q varietal intercross evolving under organic or conventional conditions in parallel populations were studied hydroponically. To eliminate storage and year effects, frozen F6, F10, F11 and F15 seeds were multiplied in one field, resulting in the respective Fx.1 generations. This eliminated generation and growing system effects on seed size for the F6.1 F10.1 and F15.1. Due to a severe winter kill affecting ...

Morphological and Genetic Diversity of Sea Buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) in the Karakoram Mountains of Northern Pakistan
(2018-07-30)
Sea buckthorn (Hippophae rhamnoides L.) is a dioecious, wind-pollinated shrub growing in Eurasia including the Karakoram Mountains of Pakistan (Gilgit-Baltistan territory). Contrary to the situation in other countries, in Pakistan this species is heavily underutilized. Moreover, a striking diversity of berry colors and shapes in Pakistan raises the question: which varieties might be more suitable for different national and international markets? Therefore, both morphological and genetic diversity of sea buckthorn ...

Multi-Temporal Agricultural Land-Cover Mapping Using Single-Year and Multi-Year Models Based on Landsat Imagery and IACS Data
(2019-06-12)
The spatial distribution and location of crops are necessary information for agricultural planning. The free availability of optical satellites such as Landsat offers an opportunity to obtain this key information. Crop type mapping using satellite data is challenged by its reliance on ground truth data. The Integrated Administration and Control System (IACS) data, submitted by farmers in Europe for subsidy payments, provide a solution to the issue of periodic field data collection. The present study tested the ...

Common and Contradictory Motivations in Buying Intentions for Green and Luxury Automobiles
(2019-06-13)
Luxury is often blamed for creating social inequality and hampering sustainability, especially in the social and environmental realms. For instance, luxury goods entice people to conspicuous consumption that may result in showing off. However, study results show that luxury and environmental sustainability have common features. Notably, previous research mainly examined motivations for green purchases in general without relating to the specific product categories such as durables. Therefore, this study examines the ...

Preferential weakening of rotational magnetic anisotropy by keV-He ion bombardment in polycrystalline exchange bias layer systems
(2018-05-04)
The consequences of keV light-ion bombardment of polycrystalline exchange bias layer systems on individual magnetic anisotropies composing the effective unidirectional magnetic anisotropy are investigated by vectorial magneto-optic Kerr effect measurements. Preferential reduction of rotatable magnetic anisotropy as compared to the other magnetic anisotropies is observable, disproving the intuitive assumption of an equable weakening of all magnetic anisotropies due to the bombardment. It is concluded that light-ion ...

Pre-service Science Teachers’ Neuroscience Literacy: Neuromyths and a Professional Understanding of Learning and Memory
(2019-02-14)
Transferring current research findings on the topic of learning and memory to “brain-based” learning in schools is of great interest among teachers. However, numerous international studies demonstrate that both pre-service and in-service teachers do not always succeed. Instead, they transfer numerous misconceptions about neuroscience, known as neuromyths, into pedagogical practice. As a result, researchers call for more neuroscience in teacher education in order to create a professional understanding of learning and ...

Estimation of Vegetable Crop Parameter by Multi-temporal UAV-Borne Images
(2018-05-22)
3D point cloud analysis of imagery collected by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) has been shown to be a valuable tool for estimation of crop phenotypic traits, such as plant height, in several species. Spatial information about these phenotypic traits can be used to derive information about other important crop characteristics, like fresh biomass yield, which could not be derived directly from the point clouds. Previous approaches have often only considered single date measurements using a single point cloud derived ...

Review of the Psychodinae from Mallorca, Spain, with description of Pericoma unipennata, sp. n. (Diptera, Psychodidae)
(2016-04-05)
We review the Psychodinae of Mallorca, recognising fifteen species based on recent collections and available literature. Previously unpublished data is presented for eleven species, of which Neoarisemus ibericus Wagner, 1978, Mormia tenebricosa (Vaillant, 1954), Clogmia albipunctata (Williston, 1893), Lepiseodina rothschildi (Eaton, 1913), Paramormia ustulata (Walker, 1856), Philosepedon pyrenaicus Vaillant, 1974 and Psychoda (Psycha) grisescens Tonnoir, 1922 are first records for Mallorca. An old record of Pericoma ...

Fabrication of highly dense arrays of nanocrystalline diamond nanopillars with integrated silicon-vacancy color centers during the growth
(2019-11-06)
Highly dense arrays of diamond nanopillars have been fabricated using nanocrystalline diamond films (NCD) as the starting material. The fabrication process consisted of electron beam lithography (EBL), aluminum mask deposition and inductively coupled O2 plasma reactive ion etching. The EBL pattern fidelity was enhanced by proximity corrections and dose variations. Optical characterizations of the arrays indicated the incorporation of silicon-vacancy centers during NCD growth as well as enhanced fluorescence and ...
