Role of SSD1 in Phenotypic Variation of Saccharomyces cerevisiae Strains Lacking DEG1-Dependent Pseudouridylation
(2021-08-15)
Yeast phenotypes associated with the lack of wobble uridine (U34) modifications in tRNA were shown to be modulated by an allelic variation of SSD1, a gene encoding an mRNA-binding protein. We demonstrate that phenotypes caused by the loss of Deg1-dependent tRNA pseudouridylation are similarly affected by SSD1 allelic status. Temperature sensitivity and protein aggregation are elevated in deg1 mutants and further increased in the presence of the ssd1-d allele, which encodes a truncated form of Ssd1. In addition, ...

Vertrauen und Führung im Kontext digitaler Arbeit
(2020-04-16)
Der vorliegende Beitrag der Zeitschrift „Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation.

1,1′-Ferrocenylene-Bridged Bis(N-Heterocyclic Olefin) Derivatives
(2021-10-18)
The 1,1′-ferrocenylene (fc)-bridged bis(N-heterocyclic olefin) compounds (IMes=CH)₂fc (1, IMes=1,3-dimesitylimidazolin-2-ylidene) and (IPr=CH)₂fc (2, IPr=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolin-2-ylidene) were synthesised from (ICH₂)₂fc (3) and the respective N-heterocyclic carbene IMes or IPr. Ligand substitution reactions of 1 and 2 with [BH₃(THF)] afforded the complexes [1(BH₃)₂] and [2(BH₃)₂] as mixtures of the rac- and meso-diastereomers. The new ferrocene derivatives 1–3 and the complexes meso-[1(BH₃)₂], ...

Soil–climate contribution to DNDC model uncertainty in simulating biomass accumulation under urban vegetable production on a Petroplinthic Cambisol in Tamale, Ghana
(2020-03-24)
Crop yield simulation using the Denitrification–Decomposition (DNDC) model can help to understand key bottlenecks for improved nitrogen (N) use efficiency and estimate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in West African urban vegetable production. The DNDC model was successfully calibrated using high‐resolution weather records, information on management practices and soils, and measured biomass accumulation and N uptake by amaranth (Amaranthus L.), jute mallow (Corchorus olitorius L.), lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.), and ...

Prevalence and utilization of company integration management in Germany: Results of the 2018 BiBB/BAuA survey of employed persons
(2021-09-09)
Objectives
This secondary analysis aims to investigate the implementation of the legally required company integration management (“BEM”) in case of an incapacity for work of at least six weeks and to identify predictors.
Methods
Database is the representative randomized 2018 BIBB/BAuA Employment Survey of 20 012 employed persons in Germany.
Results
Of the 1367 employees entitled to company integration management, 40% received an offer from their employer and 27% accepted it. In the public sector, half of those ...

The Role of Institutional Uncertainty for Social Sustainability of Companies and Supply Chains
(2020-04-06)
Global sourcing largely occurs from so-called emerging markets and developing economies (EMDEs). In these contexts, substantial leverage effects for sustainability in supply chains (SCs) can be expected by reducing adverse impacts on society and minimising related risks. For this ethical end, an adequate understanding of the respective sourcing contexts is fundamental. This case study of South Africa’s (SA) mining sector uses institutional theory and the notion of institutional uncertainty to empirically analyse the ...

No Robust Effect of Distributed Practice on the Short- and Long-Term Retention of Mathematical Procedures
(2020-04-29)
We investigated the effect of distributed practice and more specifically the “lag effect” concerning the retention of mathematical procedures. The lag effect implies that longer retention intervals benefit from longer inter-study intervals (ISIs). University students (N = 235) first learned how to solve permutation tasks and then practiced this procedure with an ISI of zero (i.e., massed), one, or 11 days. The final test took place after one or five weeks. All conditions were manipulated between-subjects. Contrary ...

A Hybrid Optimization Method Combining Network Expansion Planning and Switching State Optimization
(2020-07-01)
Combining switching state optimization (SSO) and network expansion planning (NEP) in AC systems results in a mixed-integer non-linear optimization problem. Two methodically different solution approaches are mathematical programming and heuristic methods. In this paper, we develop a hybrid optimization method combining both methods to solve the combined optimization of SSO and NEP. The presented hybrid method applies a DC programming model as an initialization strategy to reduce the search space of the heuristic. A ...

Extreme droughts in oligotrophic mountain grasslands cause substantial species abundance changes and amplify community filtering
(2021-10-08)
Questions
Mountain grasslands can be strongly affected by extreme droughts such as those related to climate change. What are the impacts of extreme droughts on community composition, diversity, Ellenberg indicator scores and species groups in oligotrophic montane Nardus grasslands, and what are the associated mechanisms of vegetation change?
Location
Rhön Mountains, Germany.
Methods
Over three consecutive years, we investigated the effects of yearly droughts (April–August) in an experimental setup with rainout ...

Investment Barriers and Labeling Schemes for Socially Responsible Investments
(2020-02-21)
Given the increasing role of socially responsible investing (SRI), but still limited participation of individual (i.e. small, retail) investors, the objective of this study is twofold: (i) We aim to identify investment barriers regarding SRI for individual investors and analyze to what extent these barriers vary across different investor groups. (ii) We analyze to what extent sustainability or transparency labels can help to overcome these barriers. To this end, we empirically analyze data from a survey and a stated ...
