Analysis and Optimization of the Loss Distribution for a Two Stage AC/DC Power Supply
(2023-12-12)
This paper presents the analysis and optimization procedure of a two-stage bidirectional AC/DC power supply. The exemplary power supply consists of a silicon carbide based active front end and a dual active bridge DC/DC converter. It is designed to supply 600 V DC applications from universal low voltage AC grids with a power up to 6 kW. The paper includes the topology and design considerations, as well as an in-depth loss distribution analysis based on a validated loss model. The loss model is then utilized for an ...

Multi-Resolution Segmentation of Solar Photovoltaic Systems Using Deep Learning
(2023-12-11)
In the realm of solar photovoltaic system image segmentation, existing deep learning networks focus almost exclusively on single image sources both in terms of sensors used and image resolution. This often prevents the wide deployment of such networks. Our research introduces a novel approach to train a network on a diverse range of image data, spanning UAV, aerial, and satellite imagery at both native and aggregated resolutions of 0.1 m, 0.2 m, 0.3 m, 0.8 m, 1.6 m, and 3.2 m. Using extensive hyperparameter tuning, ...

Algorithm for fast evaluation of in-plane fiber orientation in reinforced plastics using light microscopy images
(2023-09-26)
Methods for evaluating the orientation of carbon fibers in reinforced plastics vary in complexity and are application specific. Here, we report an algorithm that quickly evaluates in-plane fiber orientation based on determining the correlation coefficient of adjacent regions in microscopy images. The result is not the fiber orientation of individual fibers, but the principal fiber orientation of small image areas. This method is applicable to large areas due to its low computation time and captures varying fiber ...

High-Strength Dissimilar Welds Between a NiTi Shape Memory Alloy and Titanium Obtained by Intermixing Niobium Using Pulsed Laser Beam Welding
(2023-11-17)
Joining of NiTi shape memory alloys with commercially pure titanium (Ti) is of great interest for manifold industrial applications. However, dissimilar fusion welding of these materials is associated with the formation of extremely brittle intermetallic compounds, e.g., Ti2Ni and TiNi3, which drastically limit the mechanical properties of NiTi/Ti joints. The present investigation seeks to improve both chemical compatibility and mechanical performance through intermixing of a niobium foil as filler material into a ...
