Can group identity explain the gender gap in the recruitment process?
(2022-12-27)
Despite evidence that the gender gap in the labour market favours men, aggregate findings from correspondence studies show that women are more likely than men to be invited for a job interview. We hypothesize that the predominance of women among recruiters may explain this somewhat puzzling finding; recruiters may favour applicants of their own gender. We use the data from a large-scale correspondence study to test this hypothesis. As expected, we find that female applicants are more likely to receive callbacks for ...

On the implementation of large period piece-wise linear Arnold cat map
(2022-04-26)
This paper presents a piece-wise linear cat map (PWLCM) obtained by perturbing the conventional quantized Arnold cat map (QACM) with a nonlinear term. The effect of the nonlinear term on the dynamics of the QACM is investigated. We show that the eigenvalues, hence the Lyapunov exponents of the PWLCM depend on the initial conditions, which is not the case for the QACM. As a result, the proposed PWLCM is a generalized form of the QACM, whose the period exponentially increases with respect to the precision, thus taking ...

Ende 2021 (Az. L 4 KR 651/19) hat das LSG Bayern diese Rechtsauffassung ...

A Stable Crystalline N-Heterocyclic Carbene with a 1,1’ - Ferrocenylene Backbone and Benzylic N-Substituents
(2022-12-08)
Two ferrocene-based NHCs of the type fc[(NR)₂C:] (1ᴿ; fc=1,1’-ferrocenylene) containing benzylic N-substituents were synthesised from the corresponding formamidinium compounds 1ᴿH[BF₄] by reaction with LiN(SiMe₃)₂. In the case of R=CH₂Ph (Bn), the carbene was characterised through trapping reactions with sulfur and selenium, which afforded fc[(NBn)₂CS] (1ᴮⁿS) and fc[(NBn)₂CSe] (1ᴮⁿSe), respectively. A thermally stable carbene was obtained with R=CH₂Mes (Bn*). Its reaction with sulfur and selenium afforded fc[(NBn*)₂CS] ...

The correlation of honesty-humility and learning goals with academic cheating
(2022-12-05)
Academic cheating is a problem that affects many educational institutions and has become increasingly significant with the new challenges of online education. Recent studies have found that learning goals are correlated with cheating behavior among students. In this study, we investigated whether learning goals are still a predictor of cheating behavior when controlling for students’ Honesty-Humility (emanated from the HEXACO model of personality) within a sample of 311 German university students. Regrading students’ ...

What Helps the Unemployed to Stay Healthy? A Qualitative Study of Coping with the Negative Effects of Job Loss
(2022-05-22)
Background
A variety of empirical studies have shown the negative effects of unemployment on health. A research gap exists regarding salutogenic factors and successful coping strategies to master involuntary job loss and unemployment with the least damage to health. Hence, this study aims at generating a deeper understanding of coping with unemployment and maintaining health.
Design and methods
We conducted problem-centered guideline interviews with 21 unemployed people. For the analysis of the interviews, we ...

Microbial response of distinct soil types to land-use intensification at a South-Indian rural-urban interface
(2022-03-01)
Aims
Rural-urban dynamics are leading to agricultural intensification practices, which affect microbial ecosystem functions in a soil-specific way. This study aimed to investigate what effects agricultural intensification has on soil microbial communities.
Methods
The effects of N fertilization level (low and high) and crop type (maize and finger millet) on microbial communities were investigated, using a two-factorial split-plot design, at two fields (irrigated and rainfed) on typical soil types (Nitisol and ...

Cold Load Pickup Model Adequacy for Power System Restoration Studies
(2022-10-18)
When a grid section is re-energized after an interruption, the load behaviour can be significantly different from normal operation. In this manuscript, the impact of the phenomenon—known as cold load pickup—is investigated by evaluating 31 time series measured after network outages in Austria and Germany. Its impact on power system restoration and the adequacy of the most common type of simplified model for such investigations is assessed by the time domain simulation of a restoration setting involving the parallel ...
