Exploring Chinese Consumers’ Online Purchase Intentions toward Certified Food Products during the COVID-19 Pandemic
(2021-11-08)
The outbreak of COVID-19 has significantly increased consumers’ demands for online groceries, as well as healthy, safe, and better-quality food products. In China, certified food products are commonly perceived as safe and good-quality products. Therefore, this study investigated potential factors that influenced Chinese consumers’ online shopping intentions toward certified food during the COVID-19 crisis. An integrated model was proposed by combining the technology acceptance model (TAM) and the theory of planned ...

Seasonal effects in the long-term correction of short-term wind measurements using reanalysis data
(2021-11-21)
Measure–correlate–predict (MCP) approaches are often used to correct wind measurements to the long-term wind conditions on-site. This paper investigates systematic errors in MCP-based long-term corrections which occur if the measurement on-site covers only a few months (seasonal biases). In this context, two common linear MCP methods are tested and compared with regard to accuracy in mean, variance, and turbine energy production – namely, variance ratio (VR) and linear regression with residuals (LR). Wind measurement ...

New species and a new record of Phylloporia from Benin
(2021-04-23)
Species of the wood-decay genus Phylloporia (Hymenochaetaceae, Hymenochaetales, Basidiomycota) are widely distributed in the tropics. Phylloporia species are, however, morphologically and ecologically diverse, which makes morphology-based species identification challenging. In this study, we re-examined species of Phylloporia reported from Benin (West Africa). Using an integrative approach combining morphology, ecology, and phylogenetic analyses, we describe Phylloporia beninensis sp. nov. and report Phylloporia ...

Sugar Beet Damage Detection during Harvesting Using Different Convolutional Neural Network Models
(2021-11-09)
Mechanical damages of sugar beet during harvesting affects the quality of the final products and sugar yield. The mechanical damage of sugar beet is assessed randomly by operators of harvesters and can depend on the subjective opinion and experience of the operator due to the complexity of the harvester machines. Thus, the main aim of this study was to determine whether a digital two-dimensional imaging system coupled with convolutional neural network (CNN) techniques could be utilized to detect visible mechanical ...

Mirau-Based CSI with Oscillating Reference Mirror for Vibration Compensation in In-Process Applications
(2021-10-15)
We present a Mirau-type coherence scanning interferometer (CSI) with an oscillating reference mirror and an integrated interferometric distance sensor (IDS) sharing the optical path with the CSI. The IDS works simultaneously with the CSI and measures the distance changes during the depth scanning process with high temporal resolution. The additional information acquired by the IDS is used to correct the CSI data disturbed by unwanted distance changes due to environmental vibrations subsequent to the measurement. Due ...

Porcher, Jocelyne/Estebanez, Jean (Hrsg.): Animal Labor. A New Perspective on Human-Animal Relations, 182 S., transcript, Bielefeld 2019.
(2020-07-23)

Complex dynamics in psychosocial work with unaccompanied minor refugees with uncertain future prospects: A case study
(2020-09-09)
This case study explores the arriving process of an unaccompanied minor refugee in Germany and his perception of the psychosocial support he received. The aim is to elaborate possibilities to support refugee adolescents' arrival processes adequately. Two interviews—theme‐centered and narrative—were conducted and afterwards examined by a group of five researchers who used experts' validation as the analyzing tool. Four main dimensions were identified contributing to the complex dynamics in psychosocial work with ...

Does social exclusion improve detection of real and fake smiles? A replication study
(2021-01-28)
Research on social exclusion suggests an increased attention of excluded persons to subtle social cues. In one study (N = 32), published in Psychological Science,Bernstein et al. (2008) provided evidence for this idea by showing that participants in the social exclusion condition were better in correctly categorizing a target person’s smile as real or fake. Although highly cited, this finding has never been directly replicated.
The present study aimed to fill that gap. 201 participants (79.1% female) were randomly ...

3D printed dielectric lens for the gain enhancement of a broadband antenna
(2020-01-13)
A novel 3D printed dielectric lens to enhance antenna gain parameters is presented. The lens is fabricated using a fused deposition method (FDM) which is a cost‐effective and an efficient 3D printing technique. Poly‐methyl methacrylate (PMMA) is used as a dielectric material due to its good RF properties. The thickness of the dielectric lens is 14 mm and provides a gain enhancement of up to 6.9 dBi over a wide frequency range. The dielectric lens is designed and computationally analyzed to demonstrate refractive index ...

A Study of Extensions of Classical Summation Theorems for the Series ₃F₂ and ₄F₃ with Applications
(2021-03-16)
Very recently, Masjed-Jamei & Koepf [Some summation theorems for generalized hypergeometric functions, Axioms, 2018, 7, 38, 10.3390/axioms 7020038] established some summation theorems for the generalized hypergeometric functions. The aim of this paper is to establish extensions of some of their summation theorems in the most general form. As an application, several Eulerian-type and Laplace-type integrals have also been given. Results earlier obtained by Jun et al. and Koepf et al. follow special cases of our main findings.
