Consumer acceptability of rice-like grains made from cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) and corn (Zea mays)
(2020-11-29)
Rice is one of the most important crops in Asia. There are several crops that can be utilized as an alternative to rice. This can help reduce the burden of rice importation and improve food security. The purpose of this study was to develop a consumer acceptable rice-like grains from cassava and corn. A total of 220 combinations of rice-like grains from different cultivars of cassava (Binulak, Lakan 1, Lakan 2, Rajah 4) and corn (IPB Var 6, IPB Var 8, IPB Var 11, IPB Var 13) were developed. Most acceptable combinations ...

The Implications of Feedback Frequency for Employee Creativity
(2022)
Managers are still floundering when they have to decide on the optimal level of feedback frequency; either when they consider themselves as a source of feedback, but also when they shape the feedback environment of their employees, e.g., by allowing more (or less) frequent customer feedback. Furthermore, given that feedback is a time-consuming task, managers might be reluctant to provide feedback frequently, foregoing a potentially powerful lever for increasing employee creativity. Ultimately, clarifying the ambiguities ...

Responsibility and prosocial behavior - Experimental evidence on charitable donations by individuals and group representatives
(2020-11-13)
In this paper we present a lab-in-the-field experiment with a large and diverse sample to compare charitable donations when individuals decide for themselves only and when they decide as a group representative. In contrast to the previous literature, we find that individuals make greater charitable contributions when they decide as a group representative than when they decide alone. This result demonstrates that being responsible for a group does not always lead to more selfish behavior.

Movement Recognition and Direction Detection of Pedestrians
(2021)
In this dissertation we developed a method that uses smartphone sensors to recognise the pedestrian movement (using the accelerometer) and direction (using the compass) accurately. The proposed approach works independent of the GPS and also improved the recognition time of pedestrians movement and direction in comparison to using the GPS.Currently, smartphones are the most common devices people carry with them along with the tablets and smartwatches. Most smartphones are equipped with different types of sensors, ...

Optimal control of a rate-independent system constrained to parameterized balanced viscosity solutions
(2022)
In this dissertation, we analyze an optimal control problem governed by a rate-independent system in an abstract infinite-dimensional setting. The rate-independent system is characterized by a nonconvex stored energy functional, which depends on time via a time-dependent external loading, and by a convex dissipation potential, which is assumed to be bounded and positively homogeneous of degree one.
The optimal control problem uses the external load as control variable and is constrained to normalized ...

Consistent Hierarchical Control in Cooperative Autonomous Driving
(2022)
This thesis is set within the context of the problem of motion planning in autonomous driving. Due to nonlinear system dynamics and non-convex constraints, this problem is challenging even under simplifying assumptions (e.g. non-cooperating traffic participants obey traffic rules, lossless inter-vehicle communication, absence of measuring errors). Typical solution approaches rely on a decomposition of the problem into subproblems which are easier to solve. This decomposition often results in a hierarchy of subproblems ...

Development of a Preconditioning Scheme for Real Gases using Asymptotic Expansions
(2022)
