Estimate of correlation between the meteorological drought in Ethiopia and the hydrological drought in Egypt
(2020-07-30)
Drought is one of the most complex natural phenomena and one of the main natural causes affecting agriculture, the economy, and the environment worldwide, and its global impact has become significantly evident in the level of life in recent decades. Drought happens in different regions, so assessing the intensity of the drought period is one of the most important tools for sustainable agriculture, as droughts have become observable in many parts of the world, especially in the East and North Africa region. Responsibility and prosocial behavior - Experimental evidence on charitable donations by individuals and group representatives
(2020-11-13)
In this paper we present a lab-in-the-field experiment with a large and diverse sample to compare charitable donations when individuals decide for themselves only and when they decide as a group representative. In contrast to the previous literature, we find that individuals make greater charitable contributions when they decide as a group representative than when they decide alone. This result demonstrates that being responsible for a group does not always lead to more selfish behavior.

The influence of electric loading on crack paths in ferroelectrics
(2020-05-30)
Ferroelectric materials are widely used in our daily life and many advanced industrial products. The understanding of their fracture behavior has been in the focus of research for decades, since the success of their application requires reliability and durability. For ferroelectric fracture behavior, different fracture criteria have been proposed and the influence of various mechanical-electric loading combinations on crack propagation have been investigated. However, the crack path and the deflection of crack ...

Implementing Distributed Practice in Statistics Courses: Benefits for Retention and Transfer
(2020-11-18)
The present study investigated the effect of distributed versus crammed practice before a course deadline on the retention and transfer of knowledge, and whether learner characteristics moderate the effect. In Experiment 1, only 41% (N = 38) of the initially enrolled students worked the voluntary but recommended practice tasks. Moreover, markedly fewer students did so in the distributed condition (12%) than the crammed practice condition (29%). In Experiment 2, working the practice tasks was mandatory and more students ...

Caught in the Act: Predicting Cheating in Unproctored Knowledge Assessment
(2020-05-20)
Cheating is a serious threat in unproctored ability assessment, irrespective of countermeasures taken, anticipated consequences (high vs. low stakes), and test modality (paper-pencil vs. computer-based). In the present study, we examined the power of (a) self-report-based indicators (i.e., Honesty-Humility and Overclaiming scales), (b) test data (i.e., performance with extremely difficult items), and (c) para data (i.e., reaction times, switching between browser tabs) to predict participants’ cheating behavior. To ...

The data was analysed using the ordered probit model and the study results revealed that storage practices had significant effects on the maize marketing behaviour of smallholder farmers. Storage using insecticide and traditional granary increased the chances of farmers to become net sellers of maize. Using ...

Marica Bodrožić: „Mit meinem Kopf“
(2020)
