Quality of synbiotic yogurt drink based on beneng taro flour and honey pineapple juice
(2023-12-28)
Yogurt is one of the beverage products that people are interested in comes from fermented milk from bacteria generally Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophillus. Synbiotic yogurt is an innovative yogurt product derived from bacteria combine, breast milk, probiotics and prebiotics. The bacteria used in fermentation as probiotic bacteria are Lactobacillus acidhophilus. Prebiotics are types of carbohydrates that cannot be digested by the digestive system, one of which is found in taro flour. This research ...

Evaluation of the response of some lettuce cultivars to growth, production and quality indicators using hydroponic systems
(2023-12-28)
The research was conducted at Abi Jarsh Farm in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at Damascus University during the first season of 2020-2021 and the second season (experimental repetition) of 2021-2022. The experiment aimed to study the evaluation of growth, production, and quality indicators for two lettuce varieties, Romaine and Iceberg, within various hydroponic techniques: Nutrient Film Technique (NFT), Drip System Technique (DST), Deep Water Culture (DWC), and using three different concentrations of ...

The effect of wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.) added on the physicochemical and antimicrobial characteristics of chitosan-pva edible film
(2023-12-28)
Edible film is an eco-friendly packaging innovation that can be a solution in dealing with the plastic waste problem. Apart from that, edible film is expected to have antimicrobial properties that can extend packaged food products' shelf life. Wuluh starfruit (Averrhoa bilimbi L.), a tropical plant from Southeast Asia that contains organic acid compounds, functions as an antimicrobial that can be added to edible films. This research aims to determine the effect od wuluh starfruit juice addition in making edible film ...

Hermetic technologies and grain quality of Phaseolus lunatus L. in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico
(2023-12-23)
In southern Mexico, postharvest losses of grains are an important constraint in achieving food security and conservation of biodiversity. This study was conducted under field conditions to investigate the effect of prolonged storage on the grain quality of lima beans. Grain damage, moisture content, seed germination, and culinary quality were evaluated during six months of storage in hermetic containers and traditional methods. Data were subjected to analysis of variance and differences between treatments separated ...

Evaluation of the breeding soundness test for Bonga sheep in the context of a community-based breeding programme in Ethiopia
(2023-12-29)
The aims of this study were to evaluate sire selection traits and semen characteristics for Bonga sheep. A total of 101 sires with different birth year from the Bonga sheep community based breeding programme (CBBP) were used to collect data. The data was analysed by using the GLM procedure of SAS and least square means was separated by using adjusted Tukey-Kramer method. The breeding soundness tests consisted of physical examinations, sire body condition score (BCS), scrotum circumference, estimated breeding value ...

Effect of grain size on the very high cycle fatigue behavior and notch sensitivity of titanium
(2019)
The very high-cycle fatigue performances of coarse-grained and ultrafine-grained titanium samples with different geometries at ambient temperature and various stress amplitudes were investigated. Severe plastic deformation improves monotonic strength of titanium at the cost of a loss in ductility. Ultrafine-grained titanium demonstrates a superior fatigue performance compared to that of coarse-grained counterparts in the high-cycle fatigue regime, however, suffers notch sensitivity. Furthermore, in the very high-cycle ...

Preferences of market gardeners for traditional vegetables and associated factors in urban areas of southern Benin
(2023-12-28)
There is a growing interest in the promotion of the use of traditional vegetables to reduce vitamins, minerals, and dietary fibres’ gaps of populations and to support rural and urban livelihoods in sub–Saharan Africa, including in Benin, because they are considered as more nutritious, accessible, and more culturally acceptable for consumers than many exotic vegetables. Meanwhile, the extent to which these traditional vegetables are preferred by the target populations, and especially by the local market gardeners who ...

Food security status and its determinants: A comparative study between farm households under government and non-government agricultural extension services in Bangladesh
(2024-02-29)
The ability to obtain food security is essential to human existence. Secure food access can have a variety of positive effects, such as economic expansion, the creation of jobs, and the eradication of poverty. This study assessed the food security status of farm households and its determinants in the Dinajpur district of Bangladesh. Efforts were also made to assess and compare the socio-economic demographics and item-wise calorie intake among households receiving government and non-government agricultural extension ...

Development of deep-placement fertiliser applicator and modelling of loads arising in the process of its operation
(2023-12-28)
The article considers the method of minimum tillage, namely soil tillage, loosening the soil, and fertiliser application at a depth below the level of the main crop. This method allows you to minimize the number of operations used in the cultivation of row crops such as soybeans, wheat, and others. The research in the area of soil tillage, namely the mathematical calculation and static analysis performed with the CAD system, revealed the loads that appear directly in the places where the soil deepener is attached to ...

Parameter identification for constitutive models of innovative textile composite materials using digital image correlation
(2019-11-18)
This contribution focuses on an innovative composite material consisting of textile layers made from continuous wooden fibers embedded in a thermoplastic matrix. A finite element simulation of potential use‐cases is planned to support the development process and to study the suitability of the material in an architectural context. The simulation is based on a constitutive model assuming homogenous orthotropic elastic behavior and will be expanded to include multiscale modeling in future research. The material parameters ...
