Die Gegenwelt des Erfundenen
(2006)
The biblical narratives were read as factual and also as fictional texts during their history of reception. The biblical texts permit that insofar, as they are poetic in a specific sense: Mainly their purpose is not to describe facts of history, but to make clear the meaning of the past for the presence. In this way the events leave their historical contexts and become exemplary and universal. By formulating textual worlds, which are in contrast to everyday life, the narratives of the bible are getting media of ...

Is your Perception of "Luxury" Similar to Mine? A Concept Made of Absolute and Relative Features
(2015)
Luxury is a relative feature of goods and services. Despite the many empirical studies that have been conducted, marketing scholars have not agreed on a common definition or interpretation of the term "luxury" so far. This deficit causes improper interpretations and, thus, evokes a kind of growing conceptual confusion. Additionally, the increasing interest in luxury in recent years had contributed unintentionally to the ambiguity of the term. Advertising agencies consciously or unconsciously aim to take advantage of ...

Demand for selected plant-based protein among the staff of a tertiary institution in Nigeria
(2021-09-29)
Increasing demand for animal protein has a negative consequences human health and the environment. Thus, the need for a replacement of animal protein with plant-based protein in human diet. The demand for selected plant-based protein (PBPs) (soybean, mushroom, potato, and cowpea) was therefore assessed. Data collected from 343 staffers of university of Ibadan were analysed using descriptive statistics and Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System. Mushroom and soybean were luxury goods but demand for mushroom was more ...

Finding alternatives: Canadian attitudes towards novel foods in support of sustainable agriculture
(2021-09-29)
Global agriculture and farming practices account for roughly a quarter of total atmospheric emissions. Protein agricultural is especially prone to green-house gas emissions. There is a need to find alternatives, both in the form of protein and sustainable practices in providing alternative protein sources. However, sustainable agricultural practices must consider consumer behaviour and attitude towards switching protein sources. In this study, we carried out a survey of 993 Canadians in order to better understand the ...

Adoption and utilisation of Zai pits for improved farm productivity in drier upper Eastern Kenya
(2020-03-06)
Inadequate and poorly distributed rainfall and declining soil fertility have led to low crop productivity in most smallholder farms in sub-Saharan Africa. As a result, there has been a renewed quest for sustainable and resource-use efficient agricultural production practices. Zai pit technology is a practice that has the potential to alleviate water stress and enhance soil fertility. We assessed the factors that influence farmers' adoption and utilisation of Zai pits in Tharaka-Nithi County in upper Eastern Kenya. ...

How do management practices and farm structure impact productive performances of dairy cattle in the province of Pichincha, Ecuador
(2020-11-11)
The combination of "ancestral knowledge" and modern agricultural techniques are increasingly used by Andes farmers, demonstrating its great importance as an ideal alternative to achieve international standards of productivity and sustainability. Pasture management has demonstrated its relevance in terms of milk volume and quality in farms located in the Ecuadorian highlands, showing a wide range of types of forage resource use, in its constant search for better animal yields from the occupancy rate. However, while ...

Sensor Concept Based on Piezoelectric PVDF Films for the Structural Health Monitoring of Fatigue Crack Growth
(2011)
A new sensor concept for monitoring fatigue crack growth in technical structures is presented. It allows the in-situ determination of the position of the crack tip as well as the fracture mechanical quantities. The required data are obtained from a piezoelectric polymer film, which is attached to the surface of the monitored structure. The stress intensity factors and the crack tip position are calculated from electrical potentials obtained from a sensor array by solving the non-linear inverse problem.

The Impact of Missing Values on PLS, ML and FIML Model Fit
(2020)
Structural equation modelling has become widespread in the marketing research domain due to the possibility of creating and investigating latent constructs. Today, several estimation methods are available, each with strengths and drawbacks. This study investigates how the established estimation methods of partial-least-squares (PLS), maximum likelihood (ML) and full-information maximum likelihood (FIML) perform with an increasing percentage of missing values (MVs). The research was conducted by investigating an adapted ...

Crack path predictions and experiments in plane structures considering anisotropic properties and material interfaces
(2015-09-28)
In many engineering applications special requirements are directed to a material's fracture behavior and the prediction of crack paths. Especially if the material exhibits anisotropic elastic properties or fracture toughnesses, e.g. in textured or composite materials, the simulation of crack paths is challenging. Here, the
application of path independent interaction integrals (I-integrals), J-, L- and M-integrals is beneficial for an accurate crack tip loading analysis.
Numerical tools for the calculation of loading ...
