Market-driven harvesting of non-timber forest products and the governance of communal forests in the south-east lowveld of Zimbabwe.
(2023-07)
Despite forests providing a wide range of important products and services for much of Zimbabwe’s population, natural forests are threatened by deforestation. The highest rates of deforestation occur in communal forests. Communal forest resources in Zimbabwe show evidence of increased degradation and signs of a breakdown of local institutions for resources management. These signs of a breakdown of local institutions are coupled with evidence of a lack of any emerging alternative institutions for conservation of forest ...

Situative Teams in Cooperative Autonomous Systems
(2023)
Distributed systems have been established in many areas of IT and will play an even more significant role in the future. Such systems are no longer limited to specific fields of application but interconnect many different domains. They encompass, e. g. Cloud Computing, Internet of Things, service robotics, and autonomous vehicles. The integrated sub-systems communicate in order to exchange information and, if necessary, perform tasks together. Moreover, the number of interconnected sub-systems is constantly growing. ...

Control of Open Quantum Systems: Examples & Methods for Non-Markovian Dynamics
(2023)
Usually open quantum systems are considered to be under the influence of noise and therefore faulty. On the other hand, a controlled system is regarded as something stable and predictable. It is often neglected, that the two aspects are very closely related. A perfectly isolated quantum system will not be subject to environmental influences, but this makes it also impossible to interact with it in any manner. Controlling and measuring such a system is impossible and therefore of no technical relevance. Every system ...

Investigation of Multiphase Power Converter using Integrated Coupled Inductor Regarding Electric Vehicle Application
(2016-05-10)
The challenge of reducing carbon emission and achieving emission target until 2050, has become a key development strategy of energy distribution for each country. The automotive industries, as the important portion of implementing energy requirements, are making some related researches to meet energy requirements and customer requirements. For modern energy requirements, it should be clean, green and renewable. For customer requirements, it should be economic, reliable and long life time. Regarding increasing ...

Conputational Linguistic Approach to Implicit Sentiment Analysis: Politeness and Sentiment Interaction
(2022)
Sentiment analysis is a hot topic in many research fields such as linguistics, computer science and marketing. With the development of technology, machines can reach very high performance on explicit sentiment analysis both sentence-level and aspect-level. The role of computational linguists has also changed from handcrafting scoring rules to guide training data annotation as the algorithms are developed from rule-based scoring to deep learning models that can extract language features themselves. Moreover, research ...

Räumliche Wahlmöglichkeiten als Effizienzkriterium für Siedlung und Verkehr
(2006-11-01)

Numerical simulation of a sub-wavelength plasmonic THz antenna for bio-sensing applications
(2023)
In the past decades, bio-sensing has become a steadily growing field in the life-sciences. Popular subjects of investigation are proteins, which for instance mediate intra-cellular transfer of substances and thus are attractive drug targets. They are also responsible for the occurence of degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and the Creutzfeld-Jakob disease. Examining proteins to uncover their fundamental properties and behavior is important in order to advance modern health care and medicine. One way to ...

Towards the investigation of ultrafast dynamics in chiral systems using free-electron lasers
(2024)
Chiral molecules are life’s building blocks, making the study of their ultrafast processes a pursuit across various fundamental research fields. The results presented in this dissertation contain methodological, technical and scientific advancements that pave the way for future time-resolved, site-specific investigations into chiral photochemistry of randomly orientated molecules, using photoelectron circular dichroism and free-electron lasers. The high-repetitionrate free-electron lasers EuXFEL and FLASH2 will soon ...
