Assessing African Energy Transitions: Renewable Energy Policies, Energy Justice, and SDG 7
(2021-02-26)
Renewable energy has made significant inroads in addressing growing energy demands on the African continent. However, progress towards SDG 7 is still limited and difficult to trace. Furthermore, the results-oriented rationale of the SDGs means that both policy change and the dimension of environmental justice are not covered properly. We argue that the energy justice concept may provide a powerful tool to offset looming trade-offs and enhance the co-benefits of SDG 7 within broader transition endeavours. In doing so, ...

Development of feedback control for energy policy design to guarantee sustainable solar and wind power investment growth
(2021)
Energy transition in the power sector is one of the main pathways to achieving the climate targets. In order to stimulate renewable power development, regulatory policies play a vital role. However, these policies have so far attained only partial results or unexpected consequences due to the unsuitable designs. Therefore, the study addresses the question, “How do regulatory policies have to be designed in order to create a favorable environment for renewable power development?”
This work proposes to use feedback ...

Effiziente Erdgasbereitstellung mit erneuerbaren Energien
(2022-07)

Abschlussbericht. EnEff:Campus: Intracting an Hochschulen
(2022-08)
The building stock of universities is characterized by high energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) (Emmerich-Rose 2016). This results in underfinancing maintenance and renovation budgets provided by the state for a long period of time. Even highly economic energy saving measures often are not realized due to a lack of personnel and financial resources. Furthermore, necessary financial means are in direct competition with research, teaching and administrative expense. At the same time the federal and ...

The politics of energy landscapes: the influence of local anti-wind initiatives on state policies in Saxony, Germany
(2020-01-23)
Background
In recent years, landscapes in many countries have been transformed by efforts to fight global warming, specifically the shift towards renewable energies such as wind power. This development has been met by growing opposition from local citizens and their initiatives. There is an ongoing debate about whether and how such protests have a real impact on the development of energy landscapes.
Methods
Drawing on the rare case of a state government scaling back ambitious targets for the expansion of renewables, ...
