Kulturwissenschaftliche Theorien und Analysen von Games
Abstract
Wie kommunizieren die »Lego«-Spiele mit uns ganz ohne Sprache? Spielen wir in »Die Sims« wirklich Gott, wie es die Werbung verspricht? Was macht historische Spiele authentisch und wie lenkt die Kamera unseren Blick auf Körper in Videospielen?
Diesen und noch vielen anderen Fragen geht der Sammelband nach und zeigt damit Verbindungen von Game Studies und fachwissenschaftlichen Perspektiven auf. Dafür werden Theorien, Methoden und Impulse aus den Geistes- und Kulturwissenschaften und angrenzenden Gebieten (u.a. Linguistik, Philosophie, Theologie, Soziologie) an Games herangetragen.
Damit wird einerseits der Blick geöffnet für das inhärente Potenzial der Vermittlung fachwissenschaftlicher Theorien durch Games, z.B. wenn diese als Schauplatz für Gedankenexperimente dienen oder uns das Streben in »Roguelikes« mit soziologischen Konzepten plausibilisiert wird. Die spezifischen Zugriffe ermöglichen es aber andererseits auch, zusätzliche Deutungsangebote zu eröffnen und den Blick für vielschichtige Phänomene in Games und die daran knüpfenden Communitys zu schärfen.
Die zehn Beiträge richten sich an ein interdisziplinäres und auch populärwissenschaftliches Publikum und führen dafür neben einem Blick ins untersuchte Spiel in die zugrundeliegenden Theorien und Methoden ein.
