Functional Analysis of Src42A in embryonic epithelial morphogenesis of Drosophila melanogaster
(2023)
Src42A is one of the Src family kinases (SFKs) present in Drosophila melanogaster. In mammals there are 8 SFKs and so far, a loss of function analysis of SFKs were difficult to conduct due to their functional redundancy. In Drosophila, there are only two SFKs namely Src42A and Src64B, the former is essential for embryonic development and the latter is a non-essential gene. Since Src42A is supplied as a maternal component, the zygotic mutant were showing defects in later developmental stages, because the contribution ...

Ash dieback : the pathogen Hymenoscyphus fraxineus and other fungi associated with stem collar necroses of common ash
(2024)
The ascomycete Hymenoscyphus fraxineus has caused devastating damage to the common ash (Fraxinus excelsior) in Europe in recent decades, resulting in considerable economic and ecological losses. The ash dieback pathogen is native to Asia, where it lives mainly as a saprobiont in peaceful coexistence with the Asian ash species Fraxinus mandshurica. Symptoms of the fungus in common ash include wilting of the leaves with subsequent dieback of shoots, twigs and branches, as well as damage to the stem base. These stem ...

Job-shop scheduling with flexible energy prices and time windows: A branch-and-price-and-cut approach
(2024)
Energy-aware scheduling is crucial in the current economy and green production initiatives. However, with the rise of renewable energy sources, power production is subject to uncertain weather conditions. Hence, within a network, some balancing group managers must maintain a balance between production and demand, which requires precise energy orders for specific times. Therefore, those managers must prioritize accurate energy orders to manage this complex problem.
The primary aim of this thesis is to manage one ...

Existence and Regularity Results of a Ferroelectric Phase-Field Model
(2019)
In this thesis, we investigate the existence and regularity results of a ferroelectric phase-field model, which is a state-of-the-art model arising in recent years from the engineering area for the ferroelectric study.

Electron Dynamics and Correlations in the High-order Harmonic Generation, Photoelectron Circular Dichroism, and Spin Polarization Phenomena
(2024)

Generalized Involutive Bases and Their Induced Free Resolutions
(2022-05)
In this thesis, we generalize several types of involutive and marked bases for ideals in quotient rings of commutative polynomial rings. We apply these new types of bases to the analysis of infinite free resolutions and of Hilbert schemes defined over certain types of quotient rings. We are mostly concerned with Pommaret and Janet bases; the marked bases we consider are marked over monomial submodules that are quasi-stable, i.e., that possess finite Pommaret bases.
Involutive bases of the types we consider induce ...

Protein Folding Simulations: Confinement, External Fields and Sequence Design
(2010-04-08)
The present Thesis looks at the problem of protein folding using Monte Carlo and Langevin simulations, three topics in protein folding have been studied:
1) the effect of confining potential barriers,
2) the effect of a static external field and
3) the design of amino acid sequences which fold in a short time and which have a stable native state (global minimum).
Regarding the first topic, we studied the confinement of a small protein of 16 amino acids known as 1NJ0 (PDB code) which has a beta-sheet ...

Regulatory mechanisms of Protein kinase A - Isoform mediated fine-tuning
(2023)
cAMP-dependent protein kinase (PKA) is a crucial part in eukaryotic signal transduction and controls biological processes. With a multitude of substrates, a great variety of cellular functions are regulated by PKA. Regulation of metabolism, cell growth and -differentiation, conductivity of ion channels, movement of sperm cells, embryonic development, neuroplasticity as well as conversion of short- to long-term memory are just examples for the many tasks of the kinase. To achieve and coordinate these diverse functions, ...
