Extreme Ultraviolet to Visible Dispersed Single Photon Detection for Highly Sensitive Sensing of Fundamental Processes in Diverse Samples
(2018-05-23)
The detection of a single photon is the most sensitive method for sensing of photon emission. A common technique for single photon detection uses microchannel plate arrays combined with photocathodes and position sensitive anodes. Here, we report on the combination of such detectors with grating diffraction spectrometers, constituting a low-noise wavelength resolving photon spectroscopy apparatus with versatile applicability. We recapitulate the operation principle of such detectors and present the details of the ...

Diversity of aphyllophoroid fungi from taxonomical and biogeographical perspectives
(2018)
Comprehensive knowledge of biodiversity is a prerequisite for its long-term conservation and sustainable use. Fungi play crucial roles in ecosystems and are among the species-richest organism groups on Earth. However, all aspects of their diversity remain underexplored.
In this study, we aimed to fill the gaps in occurrence data and taxonomy as well as in understanding spatial diversity patterns of aphyllophoroid fungi (non-gilled macroscopic Basidiomycota). We digitized and made openly accessible 4,041 records of ...

Rethinking the genus Hyphodontia s.l. (Hymenochaetales, Basidiomycota) – investigations on a worldwide scope including new taxonomy, phylogeny, and identification keys
(2018-12)
The dissertation “Rethinking the genus Hyphodontia s.l. (Hymenochaetales, Basidiomycota) – investigations on a worldwide scope including new taxonomy, phylogeny, and identification keys” was elaborated by Janett Riebesehl in the Department of Ecology at the University of Kassel.
Changing the classification system of the fungal genus Hyphodontia s.l. to treat the species from the broad Hyphodontia s.l. concept by a division into other genera was continued. Hjortstam and Ryvarden (2002, 2009) began the concept, but ...

Molekulare Grundlagen der PKA-Lokalisierung durch A-Kinase-Ankerproteine
(2018-08-30)

Towards Small-Molecule Organic Photovoltaics
(2018-09-03)
Morphology plays a significant role in the research field of organic photovoltaics. In particular, the device performance and efficiency of bulk-heterojunction organic solar cells, relying on the concept of phase-separated donor and acceptor active layers, is strongly affected by morphology. The low dielectric numbers of organic functional materials lead to strong exciton binding energies and short diffusion path lengths therefore demanding an active layer with a bicontinuous interpenetrating donor-acceptor network ...

Investigation of diamond nanostructures with incorporated color centers
(2018)
Diamond is a material with excellent properties due to its structure and composition. Its crystal lattice is a perfect host of different defect centers, so-called color centers, whose properties, especially the capability of emitting single photons, can serve in quantum information technologies (QIT). As a high refractive index material only a small part of the photons emitted by these color centers in diamond can be collected. To enhance the photon collection efficiency photonic structures are necessary. They can ...

Circular Dichroism in Fluorescence Emission Following the C 1s→π* Excitation and Resonant Auger Decay of Carbon Monoxide
(2018-06-26)
Dichroism in angle-resolved spectra of circularly polarized fluorescence from freely-rotating CO molecules was studied experimentally and theoretically. For this purpose, carbon monoxide in the gas phase was exposed to circularly polarized soft X-ray synchrotron radiation. The photon energy was tuned across the C 1s→π* resonant excitation, which decayed via the participator Auger transition into the CO+ A 2Π state. The dichroic parameter β1 of the subsequent CO+ (A 2Π → X 2Σ+) visible fluorescence was measured by ...

Laser amplification in excited dielectrics
(2018-02-12)
Today, laser processing of dielectric materials with ultrashort, femtosecond laser pulses finds a great variety of applications. While ablation, cutting or welding of different types of glasses are widespread and popular examples, nanostructuring of transparent crystals or optoporating cells is part of more recent scientific studies. Although the material systems seem to be very different, their interaction with visible and infrared wavelengths is very similar: the light is simply transmitted. This changes drastically ...

Erzeugung remanent stabiler Domänenmuster in austauschverschobenen Dünnschichtsystemen mittels Heliumionenmikroskopie
(2018-04-11)
