Human Behavior and Public Goods Provision - Empirical Evidence from the Laboratory and International Climate Negotiations
(2020)
This thesis comprises an introductory chapter followed by four distinct but connected articles. The common thread is the quest to understand human behavior in the provision of public goods and how this behavior is impacted by institutional and situational factors. The main body of the thesis can be divided into two thematic parts with two articles each.
Part 1 focuses on the international climate negotiations as a platform for international cooperation. The two articles in this part, presented in Chapter 2 and 3, ...

Antecedents, Interpretations and Consequences of Strategic Change: A Business Model Perspective
(2020-10-15)
Firms increasingly face challenges caused by changes in their environment like shifts in custom-er preferences, the development of new (digital) technologies, or threats by new, disruptive business models (BM). Therefore, firms mostly engage in and initiate strategic change like business model innovation (BMI), a dynamic process that alters strategies, structures, and iden-tities and involves various actors. Due to the ...

Empirical Analyses of the Emergence and the Effect of Inter-municipal Cooperation
(2020-08)
This dissertation presents four empirical studies on inter-municipal cooperation (IMC). IMC gained prominence lately as alternative to local government reform. As local decision makers grow weary of the political costs of amalgamations and discouraging empirical evidence on the effectiveness of such reforms, IMC promises a more flexible approach to the provision of public goods and services.
What are the factors that drive the emergence of IMC? This question is answered by way of survival analysis, using data of ...

Socioeconomic inequality in academia
(2021)

Organizational resilience
(2020)
Typical terms in organizational resilience definitions are maintenance of positive adjustment or bouncing back. They are very vague and need further specification if they are to be understood. At the beginning of my dissertation in 2016 there were hardly any comprehensive conceptual articles and review papers. Now, in 2020, there are some good conceptual articles (Darkow, 2019; Duchek, 2019; Linnenluecke, 2017; Williams et al., 2017) yet few empirical studies (van der Vegt, Essens, Wahlstrom, & Georg, 2015), which ...

Dealing with Opportunism: Experimental Investigations of Measures against Dishonest Behavior
(2021)
This dissertation aims at investigating whether and how distinct measures that are supposed to foster honest behavior work. It consists of three separate papers, in which I analyze the effectiveness and mechanisms of such measures on the basis of several laboratory experiments. Chapter 2 is dedicated to analyzing and comparing the effectiveness of distinct measures that are supposed to prevent people from lying for financial gain. Chapter 3 introduces a novel experimental design that allows the measurement of the ...

Stakeholder management in sustainable supply chains
(2022-03)
This dissertation examines stakeholder management in the context of sustainable supply chain management. Since ecological deterioration and social discrepancy keep increasing, sustainability is considered one of the most significant challenges in our current time. Due to the growing public awareness of the environmental and social sustainability issues, multiple stakeholders drive the need to implement sustainability into SCs and hold the focal firms responsible for the actions of the entire SC. Stakeholder management ...
