Development and assessment of volume resolving velocimetry for turbomachinery test facilities
(Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt DLR, 2017-12-21)
The present thesis assesses the applicability of volume resolving velocimetry
for turbo machinery test facilities. Tomographic particle image velocimetry has been implemented in a transonic cascade wind tunnel. Assessment is based on 3D-3C measurements of the passage vortex in an axial compressor cascade at subsonic inflow (Ma1=0.6). Results show broad consistency with stereoscopic PIV with improved depth resolution. A novel Fast Multiplicative Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (FMART) enables signi cantly faster ...

Characterization of Novel Fabry Pérot Filter Arrays for Nanospectrometers in Medical Applications
(2012-12-12)

Residual-Layer-Free 3D Nanoimprinting using Novel Hybrid Soft Templates
(2017-08-23)
Hybrid 3D soft templates are designed and evaluated for residual layer free 3D imprinting in UV-Substrate Conformal Imprint Lithography (SCIL). 3D imprinting usually results in laterally varying residual layers, which cannot be removed by conventional etching processes in a satisfactory manner. The hybrid templates introduced in this thesis are hybrid in a way that their template protrusions are enclosed with a UV-blocking metal layer, by this means selective UV curing of the resist material is attainable. Hence, the ...

Technological implementation and characterization of optimized high quality multi-stopband Fabry-Pérot filter arrays for nanospectrometers using Substrate Conformal Imprint Lithography
(2018-08-29)

Optical Characterization of Organic Gain Materials for UV-emitting Hybrid Complex Coupled VCSELs
(2014-03-26)
In this thesis, optical gain measurement setup based on variable stripe length method is designed, implemented and improved. The setup is characterized using inorganic and organic samples. The optical gain of spiro-quaterphenyl is calculated and compared with measurements from the setup. Films with various thicknesses of spiro-quaterphenyl, methoxy-spiro-quaterphenyl and phenoxy-spiro-quaterphenyl are deposited by a vacuum vapor deposition technique forming asymmetric slab waveguides. The optical properties, laser ...

Fabrication and Characterization of Efficient Optical Filter Arrays Implemented by 3D Nanoimprint
(2016-06-09)

THz Plasma Waves in Field-Effect-Transistors: A Monte Carlo Study
(2016-02-10)
Sensing with electromagnetic waves having frequencies in the Terahertz-range is a very attractive investigative method with applications in fundamental research and industrial settings. Up to now, a lot of sources and detectors are available. However, most of these systems are bulky and have to be used in controllable environments such as laboratories. In 1993 Dyakonov and Shur suggested that plasma waves developing in field-effect-transistors can be used to emit and detect THz-radiation. Later on, it was shown that ...

Optimization in the Technological Steps for the Fabrication of Large Area Micromirror Arrays
(2015-02-23)
Micromirror arrays are a very strong candidate for future energy saving applications. Within this work, the fabrication process for these micromirror arrays has been optimized and some steps for the large area fabrication of micromirror modules were performed. At first the surface roughness of the insulation layer of silicon dioxide (SiO2) was investigated. This SiO2 thin layer was deposited on three different type of substrates i.e. silicon, glass and Polyethylene Naphthalate (PEN) substrates. The deposition ...

Theoretical and experimental study of intracavity laser absorption spectroscopy
(2015-03-25)
In this thesis, a dual mode tunable gas sensor based on intracavity laser absorption spectroscopy (ICLAS) principle is investigated, both, numerically and experimentally. In order to minimize the cost and size of the gas sensor, relative intensity noise (RIN) is implemented as a detection parameter. Investigation is performed to determine the effect of injection current, operating temperature, mode spacing, and cavity length on RIN. It has been found that it is best to operate the gas sensor at smaller mode spacing ...
