Effects of grassland renovation on carbon concentrations and aggregate distribution in temperate grassland soils
(2013-12-05)
The effects of continuous tillage on the distribution of soil organic matter (SOM) and aggregates have been well studied for arable soils. However, less is known about the effects of sporadic tillage on SOM and aggregate dynamics in grassland soils. The objectives of the present thesis were (I) to study the longer-term effects of sporadic tillage of grassland on organic carbon (Corg) stocks and the distribution of aggregates and SOM, (II) to investigate the combined effects of sporadic tillage and fertilization on ...

Application of biogas slurries from energy crops to arable soils and their impact on carbon and nitrogen dynamics
(2012-10-19)
The use of renewable primary products as co-substrate or single substrate for biogas production has increased consistently over the last few years. Maize silage is the preferential energy crop used for fermentation due to its high methane (CH4) yield per hectare. Equally, the by-product, namely biogas slurry (BS), is used with increasing frequency as organic fertilizer to return nutrients to the soil and to maintain or increase the organic matter stocks and soil fertility. Studies concerning the application of energy ...

Effects of the application of biochar and organic fertilizers as well as temperature on soil carbon and aggregate dynamics
(2017-11-27)
Soil aggregate formation is an important process for long-term carbon storage in soils. While it has been shown that plant residues exert a positive influence on aggregate formation, the effects of organic fertilizers such as cattle slurry or manure as well as the effects of biochar application to soil are less clear. Furthermore, little is known about the role of increased soil temperatures in aggregate dynamics.
The main objectives of this thesis were to analyse the effects of (i) cattle slurry and manure, (ii) ...

Simulative Risikoanalyse von Biomethanprojekten
(2012-07-30)

Durchschnittlicher ...

Labelling schemes for organic food: Consumer attitudes, preferences and willingness-to-pay in six European countries
(2011-12-12)
Since July 2010, all pre-packed organic food produced in the European Union (EU) must carry the new mandatory EU logo for organic food. Voluntary organic labels (such as national governmental logos and logos of private farmers’ associations and control bodies) can still be used, but only in addition to the mandatory EU logo. This change in the regulatory environment of organic labelling raises a number of questions regarding consumer preferences for different kinds of organic certification logos, which the present ...

German consumers' attitudes and preferences with regard to organic food and food from different origins
(2016-06-23)

Attitudes and behaviour towards food attributes and organic food – a triangular methodological investigation of occasional organic consumers
(2012-01-04)
Organic food is increasingly available in the conventional food retail, where organic products are offered alongside with various other types of products and compete mainly with conventional and the so-called conventional-plus products. The latter are conventional products displaying particular quality attributes on the product packaging, such as ‘no artificial additives’, or ‘from animal welfare husbandry’. Often, these quality attributes also apply to organic products. Occasional organic consumers might prefer such ...

Sustainable Water Resource Management for a Safe Food System in Georgia: A study of Water Quality Governance, focusing the Mashavera River Basin
(2018-09-25)
From 2015 to 2018, a collaborative research project between the School of Agricultural and Natural Science, Agricultural University of Georgia and the Department of Organic Food Quality and Food Culture, University of Kassel, Germany, was carried out to investigate the multiple impacts of water quality on food security and water quality management issues in Mashavera River Basin. The environmental pollution in the Mashavera River Basin is a key hotspot in Georgia. There are competing interests in the River Basin. The ...
