(Peter Lang, 2018)
Private letters are dialogic interactions that are profoundly shaped by discourse traditions, communicative routines and phraseological units, especially in the salutation and conclusio. The study analyses the interplay of formulaic language and the pursuit of individuality in 16th century private letters written by Spanish emigrants from the New World to their wives in Spain.

Julien Gracq: Stadtlandschaft, Karte im Spannungsfeld von Décadence und Moderne
(Narr Verlag, 2012)

A question of time? Question types and speech act shifts from a historical-contrastive perspective
(John Benjamins Publishing Company, 2003)
Our paper on question types and speech act shifts has a twofold aim. Firstly, we want to combine the perspective of contrastive pragmatics with a historical dimension in order to analyse the speech act of asking a question and speech act shifts from a cross-linguistic historical perspective. The premise is that speech acts change and that speech acts described in texts are therefore understood differently at different times.
Secondly, in order to document illocutionary changes and shifts we make use of translation ...

A matter of tradition and good advice
(John Benjamins, 2014)
Based on a corpus of Old Spanish texts, the discourse traditions of counselling are analysed within the framework of diachronic corpus pragmatics and dialogue analysis. On a methodological level, the study distinguishes three types of pragmatics and offers a clear-cut distinction between language change and cultural changes in the realm of discourse traditions. In order to clearly define the different interaction patterns in these dialogues, the qualitative approach of traditional philology is combined with quantitative ...

Linguistic Norm in Linguistic Pragmatics
(De Gruyter, 2020)
In linguistic pragmatics norms can be seen as traditions that guide verbal interaction. In order to pin down the notion of tradition, we use a model of linguistic pragmatics that goes back to Eugenio Coseriu’s system of linguistic competence and to the concept of tradition elaborated by Ramón Menéndez Pidal, thus bringing together linguistics and philology. The functioning of norms as traditions is illustrated with two examples: with a routine of verbal politeness and with a narration style that is based on the aspect ...

Spiel und Geschichte
(transcript Verlag, 2010)
