Trust
(2016-10)
Trust is the enabler of social interaction. Although the origins of research on trust traditionally lie outside the Information Systems (IS) domain, the importance of trust for IS research rapidly grew in the late 1990s, and it is still growing with the increasing ubiquity and advancement of technology in organizations, virtual teams, online markets, and user-technology interactions. Theoretically, the central role of trust is tied to the growing social change that Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has ...

Entwicklung und Potentiale digitaler Raumforschung
(2018)
A rise of digital methods paves the way for new opportunities but also poses risks for spatial planning and research. Academic training of planners rarely supports the testing and understanding of digital research tools. In this article we analyze best-practice examples, review questions of data ethics and provide recommendations for incorporating the digital-turn in the academic teaching practices.

Injection molded components with functionally graded foam structures – Procedure and essential results
(2015-02-13)
In the past few years, foam injection molding has increasingly gained significance in the field of technical plastic components. This is due to the development of new processes and processing combinations and efforts to produce lightweight products. In this article, a special tool technology will be introduced, which aids the process of expanding the existing areas of applications. The technology enables the production of foam injection molded components with different foaming ratios. This is made possible by core ...

The Diacylglycerol Analogs OAG and DOG Differentially Affect Primary Events of Pheromone Transduction in the Hawkmoth Manduca sexta in a Zeitgebertime-Dependent Manner Apparently Targeting TRP Channels
(2018-07-24)
For the hawkmoth Manduca sexta accumulating evidence suggests that pheromone transduction acts via a metabotropic signal transduction cascade, with G-protein-dependent phospholipase C (PLC) activations generating diacylglycerol (DAG) and inositol trisphosphate as the primary events in hawkmoth pheromone transduction. In contrast, ionotropic olfactory receptor (OR) coreceptor (Orco)-dependent mechanisms do not appear to be involved. In hawkmoths pheromones activated a specific sequence of PLC-dependent ion channels ...

SSPIM: a beam shaping toolbox for structured selective plane illumination microscopy
(2018-07-03)
Selective plane illumination microscopy (SPIM) represents a preferred method in dynamic tissue imaging, because it combines high spatiotemporal resolution with low phototoxicity. The OpenSPIM system was developed to provide an accessible and flexible microscope set-up for non-specialist users. Here, we report Structured SPIM (SSPIM), which offers an open-source, user-friendly and compact toolbox for beam shaping to be applied within the OpenSPIM platform. SSPIM is able to generate digital patterns for a wide range ...

Direct evidence for radiative charge transfer after inner-shell excitation and ionization of large clusters
(2018-01-16)
We directly observe radiative charge transfer (RCT) in Ne clusters by dispersed vacuum-ultraviolet photon detection. The doubly ionized Ne^2+ – Ne_n-1 initial states of RCT are populated after resonant 1s–3p photoexcitation or 1s photoionization of Ne_n clusters with {n} \approx 2800. These states relax further producing Ne^+ – Ne^+ – Ne_n-2 final states, and the RCT photon is emitted. Ab initio calculations assign the observed RCT signal to the Ne^2+(2p^-2 [^1D]) - Ne_n-1 initial state, while transitions from other ...

Circular Dichroism in Fluorescence Emission Following the C 1s→π* Excitation and Resonant Auger Decay of Carbon Monoxide
(2018-06-26)
Dichroism in angle-resolved spectra of circularly polarized fluorescence from freely-rotating CO molecules was studied experimentally and theoretically. For this purpose, carbon monoxide in the gas phase was exposed to circularly polarized soft X-ray synchrotron radiation. The photon energy was tuned across the C 1s→π* resonant excitation, which decayed via the participator Auger transition into the CO+ A 2Π state. The dichroic parameter β1 of the subsequent CO+ (A 2Π → X 2Σ+) visible fluorescence was measured by ...

Efficient Spatial and Temporal Modelling of Material Temperatures within Self-reinforced Polypropylene Sheets during IR Radiation
(2013-07-20)
Polymer composites of self-reinforced fibres and a matrix composed of the same plastic material display an outstanding mechanical performance and an excellent recyclability. Hence, these materials are suitable for many practical applications. One disadvantage, however, is the narrow processing window that is caused by a strong pressure and temperature sensitivity of the self-reinforced fibres. In this paper, an approach to efficiently model the spatial and temporal temperature evolution is presented. Advanced empirical ...

Water Quality in Surface Water: A Preliminary Assessment of Heavy Metal Contamination of the Mashavera River, Georgia
(2018-03-23)
Water quality contamination by heavy metal pollution has severe effects on public health. In the Mashavera River Basin, an important agricultural area for the national food system in Georgia (e.g., vegetable, dairy and wine production), water contamination has multiple influences on the regional and country-wide health. With new industrial activities in the region, sediment extraction, and discharge of untreated wastewater into the river, its tributaries and irrigation canals, a comprehensive study of water quality ...

Smallholder goat production in the Namaacha and Moamba districts of southern Mozambique
(Kassel University Press, 2019-01-10)
Goat rearing is one of the most common livestock farming activities in Mozambique and has the potential to play a powerful role in improving the livelihoods of resource-poor farmers. This study was conducted to investigate the status of goat husbandry practices in rural areas of southern Mozambique. Data were collected from a total of 45 smallholder goat keepers in three different villages through questionnaires complemented by interviews. Most households were dependent on crop production and livestock as their main ...
