In the search for low-cost year-round feeds: Pen-level growth performance of local and crossbred Ugandan pigs fed forage- or silage-based diets versus commercial diet
(Kassel University Press, 2018-12-04)
Smallholder pig farmers in East Africa report that lack of feed, seasonal feed shortages, quality and cost are key constraints to pig rearing. Commercially prepared pig diets are too expensive and people and pigs compete for food. Smallholder farmers typically feed nutritionally unbalanced diets, resulting in low average daily gain (ADG) and poor farmer profits. Our objective was to compare the ADG of Ugandan pigs fed forage- or silage-based or commercial diets. Ugandan weaner-grower pigs were randomly assigned to ...

The Dairy Value Chain
(2013-07)
By tradition dairy farming has been a prestigious occupation in the fertile lands of the Indus basin. In Pakistan, the practice of rearing dairy animals remained a complementary activity to crop production. Deeply embedded in the rural life, dairy farming still is a sign of prestige within the agriculture sector; it forms an integral part of the socio-economic activities in rural areas and plays a supportive role in mitigating the effects of poverty by providing essential food items of daily use, family income, and ...

Negative effects for coaching clients and coaches and implications for their prevention
(2018-02-28)
This dissertation is a thesis by publication, which is based on four studies. The results have been published in international peer-reviewed journals or are submitted for publication. This work introduces the overarching background and goals of this dissertation, its core findings, and how they contribute to the dissertation goals. The full-length manuscripts are presented in the end.
Background: Coaching researchers and practitioners alike call for the need of evidence-based coaching. However, evidence-based coaching ...

Lesson learnt from Smart Rice Actions in Indonesia
(Section Specialized Partnerships in Sustainable Food Systems and Food Sovereignty at the University of Kassel, Germany and Federation of German Scientists (VDW), 2018-12-26)
Smart Rice (SR) actions are innovative farming practices derived from climate smart agriculture (CSA) concepts and are directed to comply with mitigation and adaptation strategies to climate change. This study provided information about the plausible implementation of SR actions in Indonesia based on literature reviews and stakeholders’ consultation with key informants work- ing on crop management and climate information. The SR actions recommendations are a set of farming practices applied to fulfill the needs of ...

Optimal Energy Supply Structures for Industrial Sites in Different Countries Considering Energy Transitions: A Cheese Factory Case Study
(2016)
This present study focuses on analysing the most efficient utility energy supply structure in terms of primary energy efficiency, carbon emissions and energy costs. In the German dairy industry, separate conversion with gas fired steam boiler, and cooling with ammonia chillers are the-state-of-the-art technologies. It is attractive due to its robustness and low investment costs. But given the ongoing energy transition to renewable energy, opportunities to reduce emissions will become increasingly important. There are ...

Einstellungen zu Heterogenität und Unterrichtskriterien bei Lehramtsstudierenden: Eine quantitative Studie zu Stereotypen und Vorurteilen
(2014)

Mechanical properties of hybrid glass/kenaf fibre-reinforced epoxy composite with matrix modification using liquid epoxidised natural rubber
(2015-04-27)
The hybridisation of natural fibre with glass fibre provides a method to improve the mechanical properties instead of using the natural fibres alone. This research is focused on the hybridisation of glass/kenaf fibre with the addition of liquid epoxidised natural rubber to enhance the desired mechanical properties of the composite by reducing the synthetic fibre usage and encourage the natural fibre consumption. Liquid epoxidised natural rubber was added to the epoxy matrix in order to improve its mechanical properties ...

Wettbewerb der Krankenkassen um Mitglieder
(LIT-Verlag, 2010)
