Determinants and Forecasting of Female Labour Force Participation Rate in India: Testing of Feminization U hypothesis
(kassel university press, 2020-06)
Greater involvement of women within the labour force has economic and social impact. The Female Labour Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) for India remains appallingly low at around 27%, while the male labour force participation rate has been 79.9%. In India, during 1990–2016, the FLFPR (% of female population age 15+) showed a declining trend.
In this paper, the determinants of FLFPR for India have been estimated using regression analysis for the time period 1990–2016. Data on all the relevant variables have been ...

Finding alternatives: Canadian attitudes towards novel foods in support of sustainable agriculture
(2021-09-29)
Global agriculture and farming practices account for roughly a quarter of total atmospheric emissions. Protein agricultural is especially prone to green-house gas emissions. There is a need to find alternatives, both in the form of protein and sustainable practices in providing alternative protein sources. However, sustainable agricultural practices must consider consumer behaviour and attitude towards switching protein sources. In this study, we carried out a survey of 993 Canadians in order to better understand the ...

The ‘fine balance’ of West African savannah parklands: biomass generation versus firewood consumption
(2022-03-15)
In sub-Saharan Africa, the long-awaited fuelwood gap, resulting of the unbalance between a declining supply of firewood and the increasing demand of households, remains a latent social-ecological challenge. As its quantitative basis remains elusive, we have assessed agroforestry parklands, assumedly main providers of firewood, and firewood consumption in Dassari, Benin and Dano, Burkina Faso, both in the West African savannah. Data collected included botanical inventories, tree biomass estimations, householders’ ...

Unlocking Transfer Learning in Argumentation Mining: A Domain-Independent Modelling Approach
(GITO Verlag, 2020)
Argument identification is the fundamental block of every Argumentation Mining pipeline, which in turn is a young upcoming field with multiple applications ranging from strategy support to opinion mining and news fact-checking. We developed a model, which is tackling the two biggest practical and academic challenges of the research field today. First, it addresses the lack of corpus-agnostic models and, second, it tackles the problem of human-labor-intensive NLP models being costly to develop. We do that by suggesting ...
