Transport properties of one-dimensional, disordered two-band systems
(The Institute of Physics, London, 1986)
We have studied the transport properties of disordered one-dimensional two-band systems. The model includes a narrow d band hybridised with an s band. The Landauer formula was used in the case of a very narrow d band or in the case of short chains. The results were compared with the localisation length of the wavefunctions calculated by the transfer matrix method, which allows the use of very lang chains, and an excellent agreement was obtained.

The Surface Plasmon Resonance of Supported Noble Metal Nanoparticles: Characterization, Laser Tailoring, and SERS Application
(2007-07-20)
This work deals with the optical properties of supported noble metal nanoparticles, which are dominated by the so-called Mie resonance and are strongly dependent on the particles’ morphology. For this reason, characterization and control of the dimension of these systems are desired in order to optimize their applications. Gold and silver nanoparticles have been produced on dielectric supports like quartz glass, sapphire and rutile, by the technique of vapor deposition under ultra-high vacuum conditions. During the ...

Interatomic Coulombic decay in noble gas clusters of varying sizes investigated by photon-induced (dispersed) fluorescence spectrometry
(2018-06-06)
The main topic of this thesis is to study experimentally an ultrafast and efficient non radiative mechanism – the well-known interatomic Coulombic decay (ICD) – in noble gas clusters by employing fluorescence spectrometry technique in combination with synchrotron radiation. Using Neon clusters as prototype systems, a special variety of ICD, termed resonant ICD (RICD), has been investigated by a selective excitation of one component of the cluster and for different mean cluster sizes. The first part of the thesis was ...

Statistical Analysis of Diabetes Mellitus
(2009)
Diabetes mellitus is a disease where the glucosis-content of the blood does not automatically decrease to a ”normal” value between 70 mg/dl and 120 mg/dl (3,89 mmol/l and 6,67 mmol/l) between perhaps one hour (or two hours) after eating. Several instruments can be used to arrive at a relative low increase of the glucosis-content. Besides drugs (oral antidiabetica, insulin) the blood-sugar content can mainly be influenced by (i) eating, i.e., consumption of the right amount of food at the right time (ii) physical ...

High laser field effects in multiphoton ionization of Na_2
(1992)
Femtosecond pump/probe multiphoton ionization experiments on Na_2 molecules are performed. The dependence of the total Na^+_2 ion signal on the delay time and the intensity of the femtosecond laser pulses is studied in detail. It is observed that molecular vibrational wavepacket motion in different electronic states dominates the time dependence of the ion signal. For higher laser intensities the relative contributions from the A ^1 \summe^+_u and the 2 ^1 \produkt__g states change dramatically, indicating the ...

Three-electron radiative transitions
(1993)
A new type of many-electron radiative transitions involving three electrons is predicted. The results of their investigation by many-body perturbation theory are presented. New spectral lines observed in the wavelength range of 37.5 to 54.0 nm by means of photon-induced fluorescence spectroscopy (PIFS) following the excitation of the Kr I 3d{^-1}np resonances are reported and compared with the predictions.

Molecular photochemistry with femtosecond laser pulses
(1990)
Femtosecond laser pulses generated from an amplified coiliding pulse modelocked ring dye laser have been employed in molecular beam experiments to study the dynamics and the pathways of multiphoton induced ionization, autoionization and fragmentation of Na2 . Energy distributions of photoelectrons arising from these processes and the mass and released kinetic energy of the corresponding fragment ions are measured by time-of-flight spectroscopy.

Time-resolved studies of neutral and ionized Na_n clusters with femtosecond light pulses
(1993)
The real-time dynamics of Na_n (n=3-21) cluster multiphoton ionization and fragmentation has been studied in beam experiments applying femtosecond pump-probe techniques in combination with ion and electron spectroscopy. Three dimensional wave packet motions in the trimer Na_3 ground state X and excited state B have been observed. We report the first study of cluster properties (energy, bandwidth and lifetime of intermediate resonances Na_n^*) with femtosecond laser pulses. The observation of four absorption resonances ...
