Classification of recycled sands and their applications as fine aggregates for concrete and bituminous mixtures
(2005-09-06)
As a result of the drive towards waste-poor world and reserving the non-renewable materials, recycling the construction and demolition materials become very essential. Now reuse of the recycled concrete aggregate more than 4 mm in producing new concrete is allowed but with natural sand a fine aggregate while. While the sand portion that represent about 30\% to 60\% of the crushed demolition materials is disposed off. To perform this research, recycled concrete sand was produced in the laboratory while nine recycled ...

Semantic web mining and the representation, analysis, and evolution of web space
(2005)
Semantic Web Mining aims at combining the two fast-developing research areas Semantic Web and Web Mining. This survey analyzes the convergence of trends from both areas: Growing numbers of researchers work on improving the results of Web Mining by exploiting semantic structures in the Web, and they use Web Mining techniques for building the Semantic Web. Last but not least, these techniques can be used for mining the Semantic Web itself. The second aim of this paper is to use these concepts to circumscribe what Web ...

Agricultural, architectural and archaeological evidence for the role and ecological adaptation of a scattered mountain oasis in Oman
(2005)
The recent discovery of the monumental 5000 years old tower tombs on top of the up to 1850 m high Shir plateau has raised numerous questions about the economic and infrastructural basis of the agro-pastoral-piscicultural society which likely has constructed them. The scattered oasis settlement of Maqta, situated just below the towers in a rugged desert environment has therefore been studied from 2001 to 2003 to understand its prehistoric and present role along the ancient trade route which connected the inner-Omani ...

A survey of wheat landraces in Oman
(2005)
Little is known about the diversity of wheat (Triticum spp.) in Oman. Therefore, a survey was conducted in northern Oman to collect landraces of Triticum durum, T. aestivum and T. dicoccon for subsequent morphological characterization and investigations on stress adaptation. The results show that the cultivation of these landraces (the genetic composition of which remains to be studied in more detail) is done primarily by traditional farmers who preserve the inherited germplasm on often tiny plots in remote mountain ...

Nutrient cycling and field-based partial nutrient balances in two mountain oases of Oman
(2005)
Little is known about nutrient fluxes as a criterion to assess the sustainability of traditional irrigation agriculture in eastern Arabia. In this study GIS-based field research on terraced cropland and groves of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) was conducted over 2 years in two mountain oases of northern Oman to determine their role as hypothesized sinks for nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K). At Balad Seet 55% of the 385 fields received annual inputs of 100–500 kg N ha^-1 and 26% received 500–1400 kg ...

Error estimates for approximate approximations on compact intervals
(2005)
The aim of this paper is the investigation of the error which results from the method of approximate approximations applied to functions defined on compact in-tervals, only. This method, which is based on an approximate partition of unity, was introduced by V. Mazya in 1991 and has mainly been used for functions defied on the whole space up to now. For the treatment of differential equations and boundary integral equations, however, an efficient approximation procedure on compact intervals is needed.
In the present ...

A finite state model for on-line analytical processing in triadic contexts
(2005)
About ten years ago, triadic contexts were presented by Lehmann and Wille as an extension of Formal Concept Analysis. However, they have rarely been used up to now, which may be due to the rather complex structure of the resulting diagrams. In this paper, we go one step back and discuss how traditional line diagrams of standard (dyadic) concept lattices can be used for exploring and navigating triadic data. Our approach is inspired by the slice & dice paradigm of On-Line-Analytical Processing (OLAP). We recall the ...
