Safety Approach of Detecting Abnormal Events (Spinning and Sliding) in Vehicular Systems
(2021)
The primary theme in the vehicles industry is the increase in automating and integrating more robust intelligent electronic systems to enhance the safe functioning, flexibility, and to extend the virtual productive age of the vehicular systems. Further, significant efforts focus on developing monitoring systems for the abnormal driving conditions such as wheel spinning and sliding that can increase the hazardous in the operating environment and speed up the wearing off process. Thus, these events play a primary role ...

Referring nouns in name-informing quotation: A copula-based approach
(Universität OsnabrückenHumboldt-Universität zu Berlin, 2020)
In name-informing constructions like "The phenomenon is called a “sun halo”", the noun mentioned in the quotation (a “sun halo”) adopts a referring interpretation, as indicated by the determiner. As an account, we claim predicates like call to introduce a copular relation, which is the source of referring uses of nominals in name-informing quotation: To call y “n” entails that y is an n. Two copula types are argued to be covertly contained in name-informing constructions, an identificational copula and an equative ...

Early planting and relay cropping: pathways to cope with heat and drought?
(2021-05-05)
Maize (Zea mays) is an important food and cash crop of uplands in Southeast Asia, where it is often prone to drought and heat stress associated with climate change. This study aimed at assessing the effect of heat and drought on maize performance, testing coping strategies under such weather extremes, and understanding associated mechanisms. The experiment was carried out during 2018 in Thailand, using a split-plot design with three replications. Treatments were: July-planted maize sole cropping (control), July-planted ...

Potassium iodide influence on iodine-leaf concentration and growth of amaranth (Amaranthus cruentus L.)
(2021-05-25)
Low iodine content in soils is a common feature in lowland and in mountainous regions far from oceans. The diets of the people living in these regions are often deficient in dietary iodine, resulting in chronic iodine deficiency syndrome, goiter, hearing loss and other debilitating diseases. A field experiment was conducted at the Teaching and Research Farm, University of Ilorin, Nigeria during the 2017 and 2018 cropping seasons, to evaluate the response of amaranths to iodine enrichment using an agronomic approach. ...

Review of Flux Interaction of Differently Aligned Magnetic Fields in Inductors and Transformers
(2020-12-24)
Magnetic devices are used in the majority of power electronic applications, e.g. power electronic converters, mains filters or burst/surge protection. Typically, they are the bulkiest and most cost-intensive components. Flux interaction of differently aligned magnetic fields in inductors and transformers can be one opportunity for size and cost reduction. It enables controllable magnetic devices through an additional manipulated variable to improve application design. The presented article gives an overview about ...

Dealing with Opportunism: Experimental Investigations of Measures against Dishonest Behavior
(2021)
This dissertation aims at investigating whether and how distinct measures that are supposed to foster honest behavior work. It consists of three separate papers, in which I analyze the effectiveness and mechanisms of such measures on the basis of several laboratory experiments. Chapter 2 is dedicated to analyzing and comparing the effectiveness of distinct measures that are supposed to prevent people from lying for financial gain. Chapter 3 introduces a novel experimental design that allows the measurement of the ...

Reasons for consuming rasi as a staple food for the Cireundeu indigenous people: a qualitative study
(2021-09-29)
Rasi (made from cassava) are used as staple food by the Cireundeu indigenous people. This food culture is considered different from the food culture of Indonesian people who generally make rice as their staple food. Therefore, this study aimed to show the reasons Cireundeu indigenous people consume rasi as their staple food. This qualitative research was conducted in Cireundeu Village, Cimahi City, West Java Province, Indonesia. Data was collected from the Cireundeu indigenous people through in-depth interviews and ...
