An updated world checklist of velvet worms (Onychophora) with notes on nomenclature and status of names
(2023-11-16)
More than a decade has passed since the publication of the only world checklist available for Onychophora. During this period, numerous nomenclatural acts and taxonomic changes have been suggested within the group and a wealth of novel data has been published on many taxa. Herein, the up-to-date taxonomic scenario within Onychophora is presented, with appraisal of name status. This checklist covers both extant (Peripatidae and Peripatopsidae) and fossil taxa, and each species is accompanied by information on synonyms, ...

An Exploratory Analysis of Transactive Interaction Patterns in Cooperative Learning Using Sequential Analysis
(2023-08-03)
For cooperative learning to be effective, the quality of student–student interaction is crucial. Interactions, which are transactive in nature, are positively related to students’ learning success during cooperative learning. However, little is known about typical interaction patterns during transactive interaction in face-to-face cooperative learning. Therefore, the current study aims to analyze typical interaction patterns of transactive interaction in cooperative learning. Sixty-eight students from seventh to tenth ...

Is It the Judge, the Sender, or Just the Individual Message? Disentangling Person and Message Effects on Variation in Lie-Detection Judgments
(2023-02-15)
Research suggests that people differ more in their ability to lie than in their ability to detect lies. However, because studies have not treated senders and messages as separate entities, it is unclear whether some senders are generally more transparent than others or whether individual messages differ in their transparency of veracity regardless of senders. Variance attributable to judges, senders, and messages was estimated simultaneously using multiple messages from each sender (totaling more than 45,000 judgments). ...

Efficacy of supply chain relationships – differences in performance appraisals between buyers and suppliers
(2023-02-28)
This paper examines the efficacy of three supply chain relationship factors: trust, commitment, and relationship specific investment (RSI) in affecting firms’ cooperation, innovation and financial performance, comparing buyers’ and suppliers’ perspectives. A questionnaire survey was conducted in mainland China. Two independent samples with 101 and 108 responses respectively from the Chinese business buyers and suppliers were collected by visiting nine large annual exhibitions. Both samples involved buyer–supplier ...

Urbanisation threats to dairy cattle health: Insights from Greater Bengaluru, India
(2023-10-05)
Complex urbanisation dynamics, on the one hand, create a high demand for animal products, and on the other hand put enormous pressure on arable land with negative consequences for animal feed production. To explore the impact of accelerated urbanisation on dairy cattle health in urban farming systems, 151 farmers from different parts of the Greater Bengaluru metropolitan area in India were individually interviewed on aspects addressing cattle management and cattle health. In addition, 97 samples of forages from the ...

Soil respiration under different N fertilization and irrigation regimes in Bengaluru, S-India
(2023-09-15)
Rapid urbanization in many countries of the Global South has led to intensification of urban and peri-urban agriculture (UPA) whose effects on the soils’ physical, chemical, and microbial properties have been hardly studied. We therefore investigated the effects of different intensity levels, exemplified by three rates of mineral nitrogen (N) addition and irrigation on CO₂ emissions in typical crops during the wet (Kharif) and dry (Rabi) season on a Nitisol in Bengaluru, S-India. Respiration data were collected from ...

Promoting pre-service teachers’ professionalism in steam education and education for sustainable development through mathematical modelling activities
(2023-06-19)
To successfully solve the complex challenges facing us in the 21st century, people with expertise in the science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) fields and other fields are needed, especially for their interdisciplinary way of thinking and working. These competencies should be learned in school, which first implies teacher education to that effect. In this article, a detailed theoretical reflection on the connections or overlapping areas between STEAM education and the dimension of sustainability ...

FEM–CM as a hybrid approach for multiscale modeling and simulation of ferroelectric boundary value problems
(2023-06-05)
Constitutive modeling of ferroelectrics is a challenging task, spanning physical processes on different scales from unit cell switching and domain wall motion to polycrystalline behavior. The condensed method (CM) is a semi-analytical approach, which has been efficiently applied to various problems in this context, ranging from self-heating and damage evolution to energy harvesting. Engineering applications, however, inevitably require the solution of arbitrary boundary value problems, including the complex multiphysical ...

Narratives of land abandonment in a biocultural landscape of Spain
(2023-10-31)
Rural abandonment is a significant process in the Mediterranean region, posing sustainability challenges for rural and urban areas. Although there is an increase in studies focusing on the ecological implications and impacts of land abandonment and the role of rewilding, there is a knowledge gap in the study of the socio-cultural dimension of abandonment from the local perspective, even though it is crucial for land management decision. This study focuses on a case study in Western Spain, where a social survey was ...

Disentangling the practice of landscape approaches: a Q-method analysis on experiences in socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes
(2023-03-23)
Landscape approaches are gaining momentum in both scientific and policy agendas. However, landscape approaches comprise a multitude of concepts, approaches and principles, which are in part similar, in some parts different or even contradictory. In this paper, we used a Q-method questionnaire to explore how landscape approaches are understood and employed in 45 case studies of socio-ecological production landscapes and seascapes derived from the International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI), as well ...
