Arguments of non-heads
(Akademie Verlag, 2013)
The current paper investigates these cases from a lexicalist perspective. In particular, I will discuss whether realizations of arguments of non-heads of the above types are based on a regular grammatical process or not. I will argue that this is the case indeed with constructions of the type Designanalyse des Geschirrs, where the post-nominal element figures as argument of both the head as well as the non-head. In contrast, (prepositional) external argument realizations of the type in (1)—i.e. constructions in which ...

A Comparison Study of Liquid Natural Rubber (LNR) and Liquid Epoxidized Natural Rubber (LENR) as the Toughening Agent for Epoxy
(2013)
Rubber-toughened epoxy resins were prepared using the mechanical stirring method and molded into samples by compression molding. The aim of this study is to modify the brittleness of the epoxy matrix by adding discrete rubbery phases to improve the toughness properties. Liquid natural rubber (LNR) and liquid epoxidized natural rubber (LENR) were used as toughening agents in the epoxy resin to compare the properties of the modified networks. The mechanical and thermal properties have been studied to observe the effect ...

A note on pigs’ knowledge of hidden objects
(2013-08-12)
Object permanence is the notion that objects continue to exist even when they are out of observer´s sight. This ability is adaptive not only for free ranging animals who have to cope with a dangerous and highly changeable environment, allowing them to be aware of predators sneaking in their proximity or to keep track of conspecifics or food sources, even when out of sight. Farm animals, too, might profit from object permanence as the ability to follow the trajectory of hidden food or objects may lead to a higher ...

The Dairy Value Chain
(2013-07)
By tradition dairy farming has been a prestigious occupation in the fertile lands of the Indus basin. In Pakistan, the practice of rearing dairy animals remained a complementary activity to crop production. Deeply embedded in the rural life, dairy farming still is a sign of prestige within the agriculture sector; it forms an integral part of the socio-economic activities in rural areas and plays a supportive role in mitigating the effects of poverty by providing essential food items of daily use, family income, and ...

Efficient Spatial and Temporal Modelling of Material Temperatures within Self-reinforced Polypropylene Sheets during IR Radiation
(2013-07-20)
Polymer composites of self-reinforced fibres and a matrix composed of the same plastic material display an outstanding mechanical performance and an excellent recyclability. Hence, these materials are suitable for many practical applications. One disadvantage, however, is the narrow processing window that is caused by a strong pressure and temperature sensitivity of the self-reinforced fibres. In this paper, an approach to efficiently model the spatial and temporal temperature evolution is presented. Advanced empirical ...

Crisis or failure of hegemonic masculinities in David Lodge’s Campus Trilogy
(2013-06-20)
This bachelor’s thesis examines the crisis of hegemonic masculinities in David Lodge’s Campus Trilogy. In the course of the thesis, I demonstrate that the male characters in the novels aspire to hegemonic ideals of masculinity, but that ultimately most of them fail in their aspirations. However, I also show that this does not lead to the abandonment of this pursuit, but merely to its reformulation and a continued attempt of male characters to aspire to this reformulated ideal. In order to achieve this, I conduct a ...
