Determinants of Financial Development and their Role Towards Financial Integration
(2019-10-17)
This thesis is composed of six chapters with four main chapters that encompasses three broad topics – Islamic financial development and economic growth, determinants of financial development, and financial integration. The existing literature mainly focuses on their impact on economic growth or their role towards macroeconomic stability/instability. If financial sector is important, then why do countries have underdeveloped financial markets? In this thesis therefore, we explore a more fundamental question that, what ...

Ein Sensornetz zur Vermessung des Magnetfeldes am KATRIN Hauptspektrometer
(2019)

quantitativen Befragung. Dafür wurden zunächst sieben Themenfelder definiert, anschließend systematisch
analysiert und um ...

Comparison of decent work status among smallholder pig farmers in Kenya; An empirical approach using Principal Components
(2019-11-07)
Agricultural production in Kenya is dominated by smallholder enterprises which provide up to 60% of the country's workforce. The agrarian transition to enhance smallholder participation in neoliberal capitalistic markets demands compliance to sanitary and phytosanitary standards and with codes for worker's welfare and thus the concept of decent work. Evaluation of decent work deficits in the informal economy however remains a challenge associated with sector uniqueness and differences in socio- cultural attributes ...

The eating culture of the Sundanese: Does the traditional salad (Lalapan) improve vegetable intake and blood β-carotene concentration?
(Section Specialized Partnerships in Sustainable Food Systems and Food Sovereignty at the University of Kassel, Germany and Federation of German Scientists (VDW), 2019-09-12)
This study explores how consumption of the traditional salad Lalapan, central to the eating culture of the Sundanese, is associated with skin quality perception, daily β-carotene intake and blood β-carotene concentrations. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Gunung Malang Village and Leuweung Kolot Village, Bogor District, West Java. 60 healthy Sundanese women, aged 30-49 years, were selected using simple random sampling. Their body weight and height were measured, and they were interviewed about the eating ...

Distribution of Alternaria leaf blight of sunflowers caused by Alternaria alternata in South Africa
(2019-11-07)
Alternaria leaf blight (ALB) has been shown in recent years to be one of the major potential disease threats of sunflower capable of causing yield losses in all major production areas. The aim of this study was to determine the causal agent, prevalence and geographical distribution of ALB in the major sunflower production areas of South Africa. Surveys were conducted during 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15 growing seasons at commercial sunflower production fields and at commercial cultivar trials. In the three growing ...

Assessment of a pragmatic strategy to improve health of kacang goats in subsistence agricultural communities in Indonesian Borneo
(2019-11-22)
Poverty limits options available to smallholder, subsistence farmers to prevent or reverse livestock malnutrition and endoparasitism, two of the global drivers of goat morbidity and mortality in resource-constrained, tropical, agricultural communities. Our first study objectives describe changes observed in body condition and anaemia after implementation of three feasible and simple husbandry changes to improve health of smallholder herds of kacang goats in rural, Indonesian Borneo. These changes included routine ...

Classifying Smart Personal Assistants: An Empirical Cluster Analysis
(University of Hawaii at Manoa, Hamilton Library, ScholarSpace, 2019)
The digital age has yielded systems that increasingly reduce the complexity of our everyday lives. As such, smart personal assistants such as Amazon’s Alexa or Apple’s Siri combine the comfort of intuitive natural language interaction with the utility of personalized and situation-dependent information and service provision. However, research on SPAs is becoming increasingly complex and opaque. To reduce complexity, this paper introduces a classification system for SPAs. Based on a systematic literature review, a ...

Identification of individuals and groups in a public goods experiment
(2019-07-03)
Revealing the identities of contributors has been shown to increase cooperation in public goods games. In this paper we experimentally investigate whether this finding holds true when decisions are made by groups rather than individuals. We distinguish between groups in which members can discuss face-to-face to reach a decision and groups in which members communicate via computer chat. The results confirm the positive effect of identification on cooperation among individuals. For groups, however, we only find a small ...
