The Li-like KLL-Auger spectrum of foil excitation Ne-projectiles
(1977)
KLL-Auger transitions of the three electron system in Ne have been recorded in a coincidence experiment frec of
contaminants from other systems. Energies as well as intensities are compared with calculated values.

Precision laser spectroscopy of the ground state hyperfine splitting of hydrogenlike ^209 Bi^82+
(1994)
The first direct observation of a hyperfine splitting in the optical regime is reported. The wavelength of the M1 transition between the F = 4 and F = 5 hyperfine levels of the ground state of hydrogenlike ^209 Bi^82+ was measured to be \lamda_0 = 243.87(4) nm by detection of laser induced fluorescence at the heavy-ion storage ring ESR at GSI. In addition, the lifetime of the laser excited F = 5 sublevel was determined to be \tau_0 = 0.351(16) ms. The method can be applied to a number of other nuclei and should allow ...

Relativity and screening effects in heavy-ion collisions
(1975)
Diatomic correlation diagrams are the main basis for the description of heavy-ion collisions. We have constructed the first realistic relativistic many-electron correlation diagrams based on nonrelativistic self-consistent-field, Hartree-Fock calculations of diatomic molecules plus relativistic corrections. We discuss the relativistic influences as well as the many-electron screening effects in the I-Au system with a combined charge of Z = 132 as an example.

Precise calculations of atomic electron binding energies in fermium
(1972)
The comparison between the experimental binding energies for the K, L, and M electrons for fermium and the results of our Dirac-Fock calculation, taking into account all tractable corrections, leads to agreement within about 20 eV. This shows that the present method of calculation is an adequate description of this problem and that nonlinear electrodynamical effects will not be present in nature or will be smaller than 1% compared to the values recently proposed. It is found that the energies of electronic transitions ...

On the correlation between electric polarizabilities and the ionization potential of atoms
(1985)
It is found that the electric dipole polarizabilities of neutral atoms correlate very strongly with their first ionization potential within the groups of elements with the same angular momenta of the outermost electrons. As the latter values are known very accurately, this allows a very good
(<30%) prediction of various atomic polarizabilities.

Dairy farms typology and management of animal genetic resources in the peri-urban zone of Bamako (Mali)
(Kassel University Press, 2015-05-21)
Facing growth in demand, dairy production in peri-urban areas of developing countries is changing rapidly. To characterise this development around Bamako (Mali), this study establishes a typology of dairy production systems with a special focus on animal genetic resources. The survey included 52 dairy cattle farms from six peri-urban sites. It was conducted in 2011 through two visits, in the dry and harvest seasons. The median cattle number per farm was 17 (range 5-118) and 42% of farmers owned cropland (8.3 +/- 7.3 ...

The diversity of postharvest losses in cassava value chains in selected developing countries
(Kassel University Press, 2014)
The extent of physical and economic postharvest losses at different stages of cassava value chains has been estimated in four countries that differ considerably in the way cassava is cultivated, processed and consumed and in the relationships and linkages among the value chain actors. Ghana incurs by far the highest losses because a high proportion of roots reach the consumers in the fresh form. Most losses occur at the last stage of the value chain. In Nigeria and Vietnam processors incur most of the losses while ...

Factors affecting peasants’ empowerment in West Halmahera District – a case study from Indonesia
(Kassel University Press, 2015-05-21)
Agricultural development has not yet created empowered farmers in Indonesia. Most farmers living in eastern Indonesia are peasants with low access to development resources. This condition causes most of the peasants to be classified as poor citizens. This research was meant to formulate improvement strategies for empowerment of the peasants. The data were collected between March – May 2012 using the following methods: observation, interview and focus group discussion. The data was analysed using descriptive statistic ...
