Phylogenie und Evolution der Gattung Dyckia (Bromeliaceae)
(2013-01-11)

Semi-algebraic methods for symbolic analysis of complex reaction networks
(2013-12-17)
The identification of chemical mechanism that can exhibit oscillatory phenomena in reaction networks are currently of intense interest. In particular, the parametric question of the existence of Hopf bifurcations has gained increasing popularity due to its relation to the oscillatory behavior around the fixed points. However, the detection of oscillations in high-dimensional systems and systems with constraints by the available symbolic methods has proven to be difficult. The development of new efficient methods are ...

Moments of classical orthogonal polynomials
(2013-10-22)
The aim of this work is to find simple formulas for the moments mu_n for all families of classical orthogonal polynomials listed in the book by Koekoek, Lesky and Swarttouw. The generating functions or exponential generating functions for those moments are given.

Numerical Methods for the Unsteady Compressible Navier-Stokes Equations
(2013-01-30)
We consider numerical methods for the compressible time dependent Navier-Stokes equations, discussing the spatial discretization by Finite Volume and Discontinuous Galerkin methods, the time integration by time adaptive implicit Runge-Kutta and Rosenbrock methods and the solution of the appearing nonlinear and linear equations systems by preconditioned Jacobian-Free Newton-Krylov, as well as Multigrid methods. As applications, thermal Fluid structure interaction and other unsteady flow problems are considered. The ...

Squeezed thermal phonons precurse nonthermal melting of silicon as a function of fluence
(2013)
A femtosecond-laser pulse can induce ultrafast nonthermal melting of various materials along pathways
that are inaccessible under thermodynamic conditions, but it is not known whether there is any structural
modification at fluences just below the melting threshold. Here, we show for silicon that in this regime the
room-temperature phonons become thermally squeezed, which is a process that has not been reported
before in this material. We find that the origin of this effect is the sudden femtosecond-laser-induc ...
