Comparing different methods for the estimation of interbank intraday yield curves
(2020-01-16)
In this study, we compare three different models, namely, the Nelson–Siegel model (NSM), the Svensson model (SVM), and the Diebold–Li model (DLM), for the estimation of an intraday yield curve on the Italian interbank credit market e‐MID. Using a sample, which spans from October 2005 until March 2010, the first important finding is that all three models are highly suitable for the estimation of an intraday yield curve providing superior empirical results when compared with similar works on e‐MID. The second important ...

Food System Outcomes: An Overview and the Contribution to Food Systems Transformation
(2020-09-24)
The interest in food system discourse has been increasing over time, however, the understanding of what makes a food system is still subject to variations depending on the research focus. While the earlier discourse was mainly value chain centered, the recent years have witnessed a shift in focus toward a more holistic view embracing the complex character of food systems. An indispensable component of the food systems approach are the food system outcomes that represent the results, or consequences, of the food system ...

On the Intergranular Corrosion Properties of Thin Ferritic Stainless Steel Sheets Welded by Fiber-Laser
(2020-08-12)
In the present investigation, thin sheets of stabilized and unstabilized ferritic stainless steel were welded in butt joint configuration using irradiation of a 1070 nm fiber-laser. Using optical microscopy, the microstructural evolution upon alternating heat input was characterized. In addition to that, hardness and tensile tests were carried out on the specimens. Detailed focus was given to the intergranular corrosion properties, which were investigated on basis of the Strauss test with different times of exposure ...

Reviewing interfirm relationship quality from a supply chain management perspective
(2020-09-23)
With the overlap of the interfirm relationship quality and supply chain management research in mind, this paper reviewed 100 recent, scientific, English-language papers on interfirm relationship quality based on a categorisation schema derived from a conceptual framework of supply chain management. We aim to contribute to the existing supply chain management literature by providing an insight into the connections of supply chain performance with buyer–supplier relationship quality from the relationship quality scholars’ ...

Analysis of Pigment-Dispersing Factor Neuropeptides and Their Receptor in a Velvet Worm
(2020-05-12)
Pigment-dispersing factor neuropeptides (PDFs) occur in a wide range of protostomes including ecdysozoans (= molting animals) and lophotrochozoans (mollusks, annelids, flatworms, and allies). Studies in insects revealed that PDFs play a role as coupling factors of circadian pacemaker cells, thereby controlling rest-activity rhythms. While the last common ancestor of protostomes most likely possessed only one pdf gene, two pdf homologs, pdf-I and pdf-II, might have been present in the last common ancestors of Ecdysozoa ...

A value-theoretic approach to economic dynamics and evolution—synthesizing different Marxian modules in a simulation model
(2020-05-06)
The background for the present elaboration is twofold: firstly, the ongoing debate about whether the Marxian theory of value has been damaged (or even destroyed) by the alleged impossibility of solving the ‘transformation problem’ and secondly, the fact that almost all of the (later) economic manuscripts of Marx are now accessible due to the new publishing activities in the MEGA project. In regard to the former, it can be concluded that the rationale of the Marxian value concept is distorted by its Ricardian elements ...

Summer aridity rather than management shapes fitness‐related functional traits of the threatened mountain plant Arnica montana
(2020-05-08)
Semi‐natural mountain grasslands are increasingly exposed to environmental stress under climate change. However, which are the environmental factors that limit plants in these grasslands? Also, is the present management effective against these changes? Fitness‐related functional traits may offer a way to detect changes in performance and provide new insights into their vulnerability to climate change. We investigated changes in performance and variability of functional traits of the mountain grassland target species ...

Changes in Dairy Products Value Chain in Georgia
(2020-07-22)
The livestock sector, as a part of the traditional food system in Georgia, occupies a considerable portion of the national economy. Though smallholder farmers are the key suppliers at the primary stage in the food value chain, the empowerment of smallholder farmers in the dairy production system in Georgia is a questionable matter. This research study reports the results of changes in the dairy sector in Georgia (Caucasus) after becoming independent from the Soviet Union (literature survey) and how these changes are ...

Tests and academic cheating: do learning tasks influence cheating by way of negative evaluations?
(2020-04-27)
Desirable difficulties like tests were often shown to increase long-term learning. However, due to the complexity and difficulty of such tasks, they are also argued to result in negative consequences like stress, anxiety, pressure, frustration, or negative evaluations. In other studies, such consequences were, in turn, often found to increase dishonest behaviour. Hence, the present work tests the assumptions that tests as difficult learning tasks, contrary to reading, lead to more negative evaluations of the learning ...

Long‐term vegetation changes in Nardus grasslands indicate eutrophication, recovery from acidification, and management change as the main drivers
(2020-07-08)
Questions
Which trends and patterns of community change occurred in Nardus grasslands over recent decades in parts of the Continental biogeographic region of Germany? Are patterns and trends consistent across two study regions? Do impacts of environmental changes on Nardus grasslands in Central Europe correspond to those identified in the European Atlantic biogeographic region?
Location
East Hesse Highlands, Germany.
Methods
In 2012–2015, we re‐surveyed quasi‐permanent plots that had been initially surveyed ...
