Circular Dichroism in Fluorescence Emission Following the C 1s→π* Excitation and Resonant Auger Decay of Carbon Monoxide
(2018-06-26)
Dichroism in angle-resolved spectra of circularly polarized fluorescence from freely-rotating CO molecules was studied experimentally and theoretically. For this purpose, carbon monoxide in the gas phase was exposed to circularly polarized soft X-ray synchrotron radiation. The photon energy was tuned across the C 1s→π* resonant excitation, which decayed via the participator Auger transition into the CO+ A 2Π state. The dichroic parameter β1 of the subsequent CO+ (A 2Π → X 2Σ+) visible fluorescence was measured by ...

Extreme Ultraviolet to Visible Dispersed Single Photon Detection for Highly Sensitive Sensing of Fundamental Processes in Diverse Samples
(2018-05-23)
The detection of a single photon is the most sensitive method for sensing of photon emission. A common technique for single photon detection uses microchannel plate arrays combined with photocathodes and position sensitive anodes. Here, we report on the combination of such detectors with grating diffraction spectrometers, constituting a low-noise wavelength resolving photon spectroscopy apparatus with versatile applicability. We recapitulate the operation principle of such detectors and present the details of the ...

Fabrication and characterization of diamond nanopillars, waveguides and AFM tips with incorporated color centers
(2020-06)
Diamond is a unique material with outstanding properties and the perfect host for different crystal defects in its lattice, so-called color centers, which provide exceptional spin properties, rendering them a promising platform for the development of novel devices and components in quantum information technologies (QIT) and quantum sensing applications. To overcome diamond's high internal reflection due to its high refractive index, color centers need to be incorporated in photonic diamond structures, leading to ...

Molecular-Frame Angular Distributions of Electrons Emitted by Photoionization and Interatomic Coulombic Decay
(2020)
The continuous refinement of the experimental and theoretical methods to study the electron angular emission distributions, and particularly in a molecule frame of reference, have contributed to a keen understanding of the structure of molecules and have provided deeper insight into fundamental physical phenomena.
Revealing many details of the ionization dynamics, the molecular-frame angular distributions (MFADs) of emitted electrons have been an appealing research topic for the last two decades. Owing to the ...

Energy landscapes and dynamics of magnetic nanostructures: disorder, structure, and magnetic field effects
(2020)
The static and dynamic magnetic properties of two-dimensional ensembles of dipole-coupled magnetic nanoparticles (NPs) are investigated from a theoretical perspective. Particular emphasis is put on the correlations between the geometrical arrangements of the NPs, their inherent structural disorder, and the cooperative magnetic dynamics of the nanostructures as a whole. To this aim a significant number of representative two-dimensional NP ensembles with different structural geometries and degrees of disorder are ...

A computer-algebraic approach to the study of the symmetry properties of molecules and clusters
(2006-06-19)
This thesis work is dedicated to use the computer-algebraic approach for dealing
with the group symmetries and studying the symmetry properties of molecules and clusters.
The Maple package Bethe, created to extract and manipulate the
group-theoretical data and to simplify some of the symmetry applications,
is introduced. First of all the advantages of using Bethe
to generate the group theoretical data are demonstrated. In the current version,
the data of 72 frequently applied point groups can be ...

Beschreibung von Oberflächenphänomenen durch relativistische Clusterrechnungen unter Verwendung eines Einbettungsverfahrens
(2005-02-02)
For the theoretical investigation of local phenomena (adsorption at surfaces, defects or impurities within a crystal, etc.) one can assume that the effects caused by the local disturbance are only limited to the neighbouring particles. With this model, that is well-known as cluster-approximation, an infinite system can be simulated by a much smaller segment of the surface (Cluster). The size of this segment varies strongly for different systems. Calculations to the convergence of bond distance and binding energy of ...

Polarization and correlation phenomena in the radiative electron capture by bare highly-charged ions
(2003)

Two-photon ionization of atomic inner-shells
(2004-04-08)
