Grammatische Korrektheit als typologisches Problem
(1991)

A Framework for TEI-Based Scholarly Text Editions
(2010-11-15)
In this paper, we describe an interdisciplinary project in which visualization techniques were developed for and applied to scholarly work from literary studies. The aim was to bring Christof Schöch's electronic edition of Bérardier de Bataut's Essai sur le récit (1776) to the web. This edition is based on the Text Encoding Initiative's XML-based encoding scheme (TEI P5, subset TEI-Lite). This now de facto standard applies to machine-readable texts used chiefly in the humanities and social sciences. The intention of ...

The future of people and nature in Southern Transylvania
(Pensoft Publishers Ltd., 2015)
Many things have changed in Southern Transylvania over the last 30 years – communism ended, the Saxons have all but left, Romania is now part of the European Union (EU), and people use mobile phones and computers. With this small book, we invite our readers to think about, and discuss, what might happen in Southern Transylvania over the next 30 years. What will communities feel like in 2043, what will the landscape look like, and what will happen to wild nature in the process? Nobody can predict precisely what the ...

Inclusive conservation and the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: Tensions and prospects
(2022-03-18)
The draft Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework commits to achievement of equity and justice outcomes and represents a “relational turn” in how we understand inclusive conservation. Although “inclusivity” is drawn on as a means to engage diverse stakeholders, widening the framing of inclusivity can create new tensions with regard to how to manage protected areas. We first offer a set of tensions that emerge in the light of the relational turn in biodiversity conservation. Drawing on global case examples applying ...

Transformative research for sustainability: characteristics, tensions, and moving forward
(2024-02-14)
Technical summary:
The question of how science can become a lever in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals permeates most recent sustainability research. Wide-ranging literature calling for a transformative approach has emerged in recent years. This ‘transformative turn’ is fueled by publications from fields such as sustainability science, social-ecological research, conservation science, sustainability transitions, or sustainability governance studies. However, there is a lack of a shared understanding ...

Three principles for co-designing sustainability intervention strategies: Experiences from Southern Transylvania
(2019-12-19)
Transformational research frameworks provide understanding and guidance for fostering change towards sustainability. They comprise stages of system understanding, visioning and co-designing intervention strategies to foster change. Guidance and empirical examples for how to facilitate the process of co-designing intervention strategies in real-world contexts remain scarce, especially with regard to integrating local initiatives. We suggest three principles to facilitate the process of co-designing intervention ...

Associations between landscape values, self-reported knowledge, and land-use: a public participation GIS assessment
(2022-04-03)
While previous socio-ecological systems research has shown relationships between local knowledge and the assignment of landscape values, the relationships between value assignment and more nuanced forms of local knowledge remain less understood. This study makes use of public participation geographic information systems (PPGIS), a method for identifying and mapping landscape attributes important to local communities. We use this method to assess the spatial associations between three landscape attributes often ...

The relationship between values and knowledge in visioning for landscape management: relevance for a collaborative approach
(2022-08-18)
Respecting connections between the diversity of values and forms of knowledge is essential to support a decision-making that fosters relationships between ecosystems and people. However, little theory has been developed for clarifying interactions between values and knowledge, and their relevance for environmental policy. We surfaced the overlooked relationship between values and knowledge by studying individual cognitive and emotional processes during a guided visioning exercise in the context of the multifunctional ...

Five priorities to advance transformative transdisciplinary research
(2024-03-21)
In response to the climate and biodiversity crisis, the number of transdisciplinary research projects in which researchers partner with sustainability initiatives to foster transformative change is increasing globally. To enable and catalyze substantial transformative change, transformative transdisciplinary research (TTDR) is urgently needed to provide knowledge and guidance for actions. We review prominent discussions on TTDR and draw on our experiences from research projects in the Global South and North. Drawing ...

The Representation of Motion Events
(2022)
The thesis at hand approaches the conceptualization of motion events from a theoretical point of view as well as on the basis of a corpus study and two experimental designs. The research focuses on the investigation of different factors determining the conceptualization and verbalization of motion events by examining both cognitive variables and grammatical factors.
