Identity and image dynamics – managing social exclusion in profitable way
(Publishing House of the University of Economics, 2015)
The above statement has long been established as the canonical view of economic reality, and it has only been a couple of years since we thoroughly started to contest and debate this world-view. Grasping this, we focus on two aspects about the above perception in detail: First, a suggestion to redefine the term ‘market’ in a more up-to-date fashion, second, the debunking of the suspicious correlation between ‘no money to spend’ and ‘no money to be made’.

So ...

(kassel university presskassel university press, 2014)

MEMS-based Tunable Optical Filter Arrays for Nano-Spectrometer in the Visible Spectral Range
(2012-04-23)

Climate change and hunger as the challenges in the global food system
(Department of Organic Food Quality and Food Culture at the University of Kassel, Germany and Federation of German Scientists (VDW), 2013-04-25)
In the last decades, there has been a growing tendency towards international trade and globalisation, particularly leading to a significant increase in flows of agricultural commodities worldwide. From a macroeconomic perspective, the commodity projections are more optimistic than the previous years and the long run tendency shows an increasing demand for feedstock. However, the strong shifts of shocks and fluctuations (in terms of prices and volumes) are a concern to global food security, with the number of hungry ...

Work and economic security in the 21st century
(ICDD, International Center for Development and Decent Work, University of Kassel, 2011-02)
In recent decades there has been a transformation of two central concepts of modernity – labour and the household. Ela Bhatt – the founder of the Self-Employed Women’s Association of India (SEWA), has made an important contribution to this transformation. Through the emergence of unions such as SEWA, the notion of who represents labour is being broadened; the marginalised are finding an institutional voice. Increasingly, the household is being recognised as a site of both production and reproduction. SEWA is not a ...

Normative and cognitive influences on female entrepreneurial reluctance at the base of the pyramid - an explorative study of cleaning ladies in Istanbul
(COMSATS, Inst. of Information Technology, 2013)
Previous research has considered entrepreneurship as a way out of poverty and as a chance to foster economic growth. Moreover, specifically start-ups headed by women have played an important role in the economic development and it has been argued that gender-related issues, amongst others, play a significant role for the performance of a country or region. Against this background, this qualitative study explores desires, reluctances and constraints toward entrepreneurial activities of a comparably homogenous group ...

Happy growers! Relationship quality in the German organic apple chain
(IFAMA, 2014)
Relational factors between supply chain actors have been acknowledged to contribute significantly to competitiveness. With the example of the German market for organic apples the suitability of the concept of the Relational View for explaining competitiveness was investigated. Structured interviews were conducted with selected actors of the supply chain. Actors at all levels of the supply chain proved to be highly committed and described their business relations as satisfying and trustful. Strong vertical and horizontal ...

Giving Is Nicer than Taking: Preschoolers Reciprocate Based on the Social Intentions of the Distributor
(2016-01-25)
Recent research has found that even preschoolers give more resources to others who have previously given resources to them, but the psychological bases of this reciprocity are unknown. In our study, a puppet distributed resources between herself and a child by taking some from a pile in front of the child or else by giving some from a pile in front of herself. Although the resulting distributions were identical, three- and five-year-olds reciprocated less generously when the puppet had taken rather than given resources. ...

Effect of Auger recombination and leakage on the droop in InGaN/GaN quantum well LEDs
(Optical Society of America, 2014)
We investigate the effect of the epitaxial structure and the acceptor doping profile on the efficiency droop in InGaN/GaN LEDs by the physics based simulation of experimental internal quantum efficiency (IQE) characteristics. The device geometry is an integral part of our simulation approach. We demonstrate that even for single quantum well LEDs the droop depends critically on the acceptor doping profile. The Auger recombination was found to increase stronger than with the third power of the carrier density and has ...
